What are the responsibilities and job description for the Courtroom Assistant position at BLOUNT COUNTY?
Under general supervision, the Courtroom Assistant performs general clerical duties in the office and courtroom. Additionally, the incumbent has a general knowledge of the principles and methods used in the Circuit Court Clerks’ office as it relates to the courtrooms. This is a part-time position averaging 20 hours weekly. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Assist with the filing of hospital liens, traffic, criminal, and civil files; and

Assist, answer questions, and interact with fellow employees, judges, attorney general, attorneys, law enforcement, public defender, general public and others associated with cases;

Assist the courtroom clerk with making copies, processing affidavits, and retrieving additional court files as needed; and
-
Perform other assigned duties as required.
It is mandatory for Deputy Clerk I to:

Knowledge of the principles and methods used in the Jury System;

Skillful using small office equipment, including copy machines and/or multi-line telephone systems;

Skillful using computers for data entry, word processing, and/or accounting purposes;

Supervise, organize, and communicate effectively;

Cooperate with fellow employees as team members;

Propensity to work in a dynamic environment that requires adaptation to changing goals, priorities, and needs;

Routinely maintain tactful and professional conversations with others; including, while being confronted with controversial situations;

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK

High School Diploma;

One (1) year of experience;

Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience; and
-
Valid driver’s license.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, reach and manipulate objects, tools and/or controls. The position requires mobility. Duties may involve moving materials weighing up to 10 pounds on a regular basis. Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 50% of the work period while operating equipment, such as computer keyboard, mouse, calculator and similar machines. The position requires hearing, mental acuity, speaking, and visual acuity.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Most work is performed in a well-lighted, modern office setting with centrally controlled heating and air conditioning.
