What are the responsibilities and job description for the Nurse Assistant position at BLOUNT COUNTY?
The Nursing Assistant (CNA) will perform basic nursing responsibilities and is a vital part of the healthcare system and patient care teams. Under general supervision of a licensed nurse or medical professional, the Nurse Assistant will provide care and support to patients while effectively and efficiently supporting their medical team. As the first point of contact, Nurse Assistants have a significant role and impact on patients lives and well-being. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Performs BLS (Basic Life Support), CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), and other emergency responses;
- Provides health care support as directed by the immediate supervisor; specimens for transport to an outside laboratory and performing lab controls to ensure accuracy of equipment and materials; general duties associated with a typical medical office providing patient intake, vitals, inform clients of programs, procedures, and the accessibility of services, etc., as defined by a a prescribed health care plan or protocol; including liaison responsibilities involving communication, building relationships, and collaboration between staff, vendors, and other external sources;
- Produce consistent and frequent basic support to licensed medical providers (e.g., lifting, transferring and holding children, stocking and cleaning clinic rooms, and maintaining supply rooms);
- Maintain verbal and written confidentiality in accordance with current state and federal programs and policies defined by applicable laws; accurately document patient information, prescribed testing, and results via written records and/or data entry using multiple computer software systems and websites, including appropriate procedural coding;
- In a professional manner, serve clients with dignity and respect;
- Value people by displaying kindness and dignity in all interactions, both verbally and non-verbally with patients and their families, supervisors and peers, and all citizens;
- Maintain positive, constructive, and cooperative communication with supervisors and peers; and
- Perform other assigned duties.
It is mandatory for Nurse Assistant to:
- Quickly develop knowledge of departmental practices and systems;
- Maintain current knowledge of public safety and security;
- Skillfully calculate mathematical formulas, such as BMI calculations, etc.;
- Successfully use computers for data entry, spreadsheets, and/or accounting purposes;
- Use small office equipment, including copy machines and/or multi-line telephone systems successfully;
- Willingly and actively participate and learn;
- Maintain a professional, yet personal experience for the client while managing time appropriately; including presenting a professional demeanor and an orientation towards customer service;
- Work in a dynamic environment that requires adaptation to changing goals, priorities, and needs while making multiple decisions; and
- Supervise, organize, and communicate effectively.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK
- High School Diploma; and
- Valid driver’s license.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, reach and manipulate objects, tools and/or controls. The position requires mobility. Duties may involve moving materials weighing up to 10 pounds on a regular basis. Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 50% of the work period while operating equipment, such as computer keyboard, mouse, calculator and similar machines. The position requires hearing, mental acuity, speaking, and visual acuity.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Most work is performed in a well-lighted, modern office setting with centrally controlled heating and air conditioning. This is a full time Monday-Friday position working from 8:00am-4:30pm with an hour for lunch. The work week is 37.5 hours. Weekends or Holidays as assigned for public health emergencies.
