Full Job Description:
The Purchaser / Kitchen Steward is responsible for managing the purchasing and inventory of all kitchen supplies, ingredients, and equipment at Blowing Rock Country Club (BRCC). This role ensures that the kitchen is well-stocked, maintains cost control, and upholds high sanitation standards. Additionally, the Kitchen Steward supports the culinary team by ensuring that all food and supplies are available for smooth kitchen operations.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; culinary or hospitality training preferred.
- Previous experience in purchasing, inventory management, or kitchen operations preferred.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and kitchen equipment.
- Familiarity with food cost control and vendor relationships is a plus.
- Proficiency in using ordering and inventory management software.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Availability to work mornings, weekends, and holidays as required.
Responsibilities:
- Communicate with food vendors and suppliers to place and manage orders.
- Ensure timely delivery of food and kitchen supplies, verifying quality and accuracy upon receipt.
- Monitor inventory levels and conduct regular stock checks to prevent shortages or excess waste.
- Work with the Chef to prepare food according to standard recipes and specifications.
- Ensure proper storage and organization of all food items and supplies.
- Maintain accurate records of purchases, deliveries, and inventory usage.
- Assist in maintaining budgetary controls by tracking costs and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations for food storage and handling.
- Monitor product freshness and ensure stock rotation to reduce waste.
- Assist in training kitchen staff on proper food storage, inventory management, and waste reduction procedures.
- Communicate with the Food & Beverage team to align purchasing with menu planning and upcoming events.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the Executive Chef or Food & Beverage Manager.
This is a seasonal position. Blowing Rock Country Club is open April 18 until November 26 and weekends in November.
We pay a solid hourly wage, provide complimentary employee meals, uniforms and offer a Scholarship Program through Appalachian State University.
