Our facility is open to all members of the public as a one-stop location to recycle unwanted items, disposal services for non-recyclable waste, and for the safe management of common household hazardous waste.
The Fremont Recycling and Transfer Station is owned and operated by BLT Enterprises. As developer, owner, and operator of Material Recovery Facilities and Transfer Stations throughout California, BLT's team has processed and/or recycled more than 11,000 tons of waste per day in Los Angeles, Burbank, Fremont, Oxnard, and Sacramento.

This role involves operating a vehicle scale, accurately weighing vehicles, collecting fees, and classifying refuse or recyclable materials. The position requires ensuring proper sorting of materials, maintaining accurate records, and providing customer service while adhering to safety and regulatory standards. Attention to detail and strong organizational skills are essential.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operate a platform scale to weigh vehicles delivering reuseable or recyclable items.
- Classify reuse or recyclable materials to ensure the correct fee rate is applied.
- Inspect loads to prevent the acceptance of hazardous or prohibited materials.
- Maintain cleanliness in and around the scale house, ensuring debris is cleared from customer areas and the interior is orderly.
- Ensure the scale is functioning properly and calibrated to zero at the start of each shift.
- Provide customers with information regarding material acceptability and rate inquiries.
- Balance daily cash and receipts and maintain accountability for cash within the scalehouse.
- Provide backup support to the receptionist by answering phone calls during breaks or when the receptionist is unavailable.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or GED; basic math, reading, writing, and English communication skills.
- Knowledge of general office administration, cashier services, and basic computer programs (e.g., spreadsheets); ability to operate a calculator accurately.
- Ability to analyze variable situations and apply policies and procedures to resolve issues; occasional problem-solving using learned methods; ability to work independently in the scale house.
- Follow established guidelines and prioritize tasks; deviations referred to supervisor; direct impact on accounting and operations.
- Regularly sit, reach, and operate computer; lift up to 10 lbs. frequently and up to 25 lbs. occasionally; close vision and ability to adjust focus; must occasionally leave scale house to inspect loads or take photos.

SAFETY EQUIPMENT
While performing job duties, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, and household and commercial waste. The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate.
This position requires and will provide the following personal protective equipment (PPE): Safety glasses, hard hat, reflective vest, steel-toed work boots, and protective gloves. You must wear any other PPE provided by the company.
