We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Packaging Engineer to join our client's team on a long term contract basis. This role will be responsible for developing and maintaining optimal packaging solutions for both inbound supplier materials and outbound finished products. The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, quality, supply chain, logistics, and manufacturing, to ensure packaging solutions meet business objectives and customer requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement optimal packaging policies and procedures for both inbound and outbound packaging.
- Collaborate with inventory analysts to develop packaging models for raw materials and finished products, supporting the plan for every part (PFEP) and total cost of ownership (TCO) models.
- Travel to suppliers and customers to understand packaging requirements and opportunities for improvement.
- Develop and execute test methods, capability studies, and protocols for packaging-related improvements.
- Create standards and maintain packaging specifications, SOPs, and work instructions, ensuring packaging consistency and standardization across the supply chain.
- Develop policies for preservation of materials for service requirements.
- Support new product introductions by collaborating with project management and supplier sourcing to ensure correct packaging specifications.
- Present packaging-related information to internal and external stakeholders
- Coordinate communication activities to highlight and publicize packaging plans, goals, and results.
- Validate and document packaging test results, ensuring alignment with industry standards (ISTA, ASTM, ISO, etc.) and compliance with customer requirements.
- Function as a subject matter expert (SME) for packaging engineering-related topics, supporting cross-functional teams in making data-driven decisions that enhance operational performance and customer satisfaction.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering;
- 5 years of experience in a related role
Preferred Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and statistical analysis software
- Experience working with ERP systems (SAP preferred) for packaging specifications, bill of materials (BOM) management, and inventory tracking.
- Ability to work creatively and analytically, both independently and in a collaborative, problem-solving environment
- Experience with supplier collaboration, including working with domestic and international suppliers to develop and implement optimized packaging solutions.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD) for packaging design and modeling
- SAP Business Objects
- Deep analytical mindset and problem-solving acumen
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of leadership and with external providers
- Ability to travel up to 30% domestically and internationally for supplier visits, product evaluations, and packaging optimization initiatives
Salary : $65 - $100
