Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas is looking to add to our Blues Café team and has an opportunity for a Café Assistant. This position will perform daily individual primary responsibilities in accordance with daily business needs, such as serving, scullery, prepping and stocking. This position utilizes time wisely to be available to assist others in accomplishing a common goal of providing and maintaining a standard of EXCELLENCE in both our finished product and customer experience.
These positions will work Monday through Friday in our onsite cafeteria (Blue’s Café) between the hours of 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Compensation
$16.54 - $19.60
- Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas offers excellent competitive compensation with the goal of retaining and growing talented team members. The salary range for this role is a good faith estimate, it is estimated based on what a successful candidate might be paid. All offers presented to candidates are carefully reviewed to ensure fair, equitable pay by offering competitive salaries that align with the individual's skills, education, experience, and training. The range may vary above or below the stated amounts.
What you’ll do
- Complies with all portion sizes, quality standards, department policies and procedures.
- Maintains proper food handling, safety, and sanitation standards while preparing for, during, and after services.
- Completes daily shift work, as assigned, in a timely manner, and in accordance with a standard of excellence.
- Always follow the FIFO method of inventory rotation to assure health sanitation storage guidelines are met.
- Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function as defined by policy.
- Must comply and implement with all corporate compliance programs and policies involving but not limited to information security, standards, and guidelines relative to access control with complete confidentiality.
What you need
- One year experience in industrial food service for large groups to include cooking methods, portion control, and scullery. Use of commercial cooking equipment is preferred with three to six months on-the-job training.
- Ability to follow set standards with proper hand tools, utensils, and equipment to portion food on serving lines.
- Ability to maintain all health and department protocols in scullery and/or dish room daily.
- Ability to follow and maintain basic inventory standards for business necessity.
- Ability to be cross-trained, retain learned knowledge with continued execution with little supervision.
- Exhibits outstanding attendance and punctuality and takes corrective action to prevent recurring absences.
- Understanding of food safety regarding, temperatures, storage, and sanitation/chemical.
- Must be able to perform simple mathematical calculations and follow verbal and/or written instructions for equipment, recipe production, formulations, and scullery while always maintaining food safety protocols.

- High School graduate or GED equivalent preferred.
