What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Finance Analyst position at Blue Federal Credit Union?
At Blue, we discover pathways to realize your possibilities! Our Senior Finance Analyst develops and maintains Asset Liability Management (ALM) functions using complex mathematical modeling. Measures and assesses interest rate risk, liquidity risk, credit risk, and balance sheet concentration risk. Conducts financial, statistical and analytical studies (what ifs). Prepares financial reports and presents recommendations to the Asset-Liability Committee and Senior Management. Supervises junior finance staff and directs large projects to completion. Engages in continuous financial forecasting and manages preparation of the annual budget. Directs investment portfolio transactions. Other related duties as assigned.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Develops and maintains financial models and databases using business intelligence frameworks for use in analysis and budgeting. Maintains credit risk models, including the allowance for loan and lease losses (ALLL) model in accordance with GAAP.
- Analyzes the profitability of credit union products, services, and branches using complex funds-transfer pricing (FTP) methodology and cost-center allocations. Makes recommendations for performance improvement against key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Models the financial position and performance of the credit union using complex asset-liability management (ALM) techniques, including net economic value (NEV) and dynamic net interest income (NII) forecasts and stress tests. Evaluates credit risk and assesses impact of organizational initiatives on enterprise risk and budgets.
- Performs investment transactions of mortgage-backed securities, collateralized mortgage obligations (CMOs), and other complex investments. Analyzes investment portfolio performance and develops recommendations for investment purchases and sales.
- Develops financial reports and analyses assessing interest rate risk, liquidity risk, concentration risk, and credit risk for use by the Asset-Liability Committee (ALCO), the board of directors, and senior management in develop strategies and making complex decisions.
- Supervises and mentors junior level department staff in all tasks; communicating requirements and enforcing accountability to objectives. Creates performance plans for staff and coaches to success.
- Produces and maintains a monthly balance sheet and income statement forecast for use by Senior Management. Performs what-if analyses and makes recommendations for financial strategies. Produces annual budget in conjunction with Senior Management.
- Engages in daily liquidity cash management, analyzing trends to develop strategies for maximizing return without jeopardizing safety and soundness.
- Must comply with all company policies and procedures, applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control.
Knowledge and Skills
Experience
Five years to eight years of similar or related experience, including preparatory experience.
Education / Certifications / Licenses
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in Finance or related field, or equivalent experience.
Interpersonal Skills
The ability to motivate or influence internal or external senior level professionals is a critical part of the job, requiring a significant level of influence and trust. Obtaining cooperation and agreement on important outcomes via frequently complex, senior level dialogues, as well as a professional level of written communication skills are essential to the position.
Other Skills
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including advanced Microsoft Excel functionality. Strong working knowledge of asset-liability management (ALM) analysis and calculations. Working knowledge of financial topics and formulas (balance sheet and income statement preparation, profitability analysis, average yield calculations, etc.) Working knowledge of investments and strategy, including characteristics of government agency bonds and risk / return analysis. Working knowledge of SQL and basic database development preferred.

Physical Requirements
Is able to bend, sit, and stand in order to perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs. Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in an emergency situation. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including computer terminals and keyboards, telephones, copiers, facsimiles, and calculators. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours or travel off site whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance.
Working Conditions
Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled private office with minimal noise.
Mental and / or Emotional Requirements
Must be able to perform job functions independently or with limited supervision and work effectively either on own or as part of a team. Must be able to read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions. Must be able to complete basic mathematical calculations, spell accurately, and understand computer basics. Must be able to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence. Must be capable of dealing calmly and professionally with numerous different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of customer service and discretion when dealing with the public. Must be able to perform responsibilities with composure under the stress of deadlines / requirements for extreme accuracy and quality and / or fast pace. Must be able to effectively handle multiple, simultaneous, and changing priorities. Must be capable of exercising highest level of discretion on both internal and external confidential matters.
