The Assistant Crematory Operator will report directly to the Crematory Manager and will have the responsibility of ensuring that human remains coming into our care are properly and accurately received, cremated and processed and that the cremated remains leaving our care are returned to an authorized representative of the designated funeral home or to another authorized person, all in a respectful and dignified manner.
RESPONSIBILITIES (including but not limited to):
- Provide care for the deceased in a respectful and dignified manner while performing all the tasks involved in the cremation process
- Receive human remains into our care and ensure that all documentation is accounted for and properly completed
- Adhere to proper and established procedures to ensure that our identification and chain of custody protocol is followed
- Complete all written documentation and data entry with respect to the cremation process, case records, and our crematory management software
- Adhere to all professional and governmental regulations applicable to the cremation of human remains in Massachusetts
- Operate the cremation chambers in a safe and proper manner according to protocol and procedures
- Promote a safe and dignified work environment by being aware of and practicing the general principles of professional conduct in a crematory setting
- Maintain the cleanliness of our cremation chambers and crematory equipment
- Maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of the operations area, public area, and office area of our crematory facility
- Convey facts and information accurately and clearly in communication with our funeral home clients
- Communicate in a timely and effective manner with the Crematory Manager
- Maintain proper decorum and professional appearance with respect to our crematory environment and to those we serve
REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will have:
- proven customer service experience and excellent communications skills
- a minimum of 2 years of experience in a death care-related field e.g., funeral home, cemetery, or crematory
- proven trouble-shooting and problem-solving skills
- proven ability of prioritizing and multi-tasking
- proven ability of effectively and accurately handling a multitude of details related to alpha-numeric data e.g., names, dates, times
- the ability to repeatedly lift 100 lbs. and move heavy rolling equipment
- the ability to work full time including some Saturdays
- High school diploma or equivalent; an associate’s degree in a death care or healthcare discipline is preferred
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- exposure to unpleasant odors and other conditions associated with human remains; personal protective equipment is supplied by the company
- exposure to moderate surface and airborne dust; personal protective equipment is supplied by the company
- exposure to moderate equipment noise
- as needed, case volume will require working beyond scheduled hours
- as needed, weekend hours will be required
