What are the responsibilities and job description for the GIS Software Technical Support Specialist position at Blue Marble Geographics?
Blue Marble is looking for a GIS software technical support specialist to join our technical support team. The ideal candidate will have experience in software customer support, including troubleshooting customer issues, software testing, and customer training. The GIS software technical support specialist will contribute to Blue Marble’s growth by:
- offering timely and accurate technical support to customers worldwide, including guidance on how to install the software, answering general product inquiries, investigating reported bugs, and more;
- continuously testing our products and reporting issues to the quality assurance team;
- periodically assisting the sales team with product demonstrations for potential new customers; and
- participating in product training sessions for new customers.
Position Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, geography, or applied environmental sciences (preferred, but different technical degrees with a GIS component will be considered);
- experience in software customer support, including troubleshooting customer issues, software testing, and customer training;
- proven understanding of GIS, mapping and coordinate systems; and
- a willingness and ability to travel for trade shows and customer training sessions both nationally and internationally.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficient use of GIS software such as Global Mapper, ArcGIS, QGIS, or others;
- experience with software product lifecycle and quality assurance;
- dexterity to handle multiple technical support tickets;
- readiness to learn the latest products features and stay on top of the latest trends;
- resourcefulness to diagnose customer technical issues and propose practical solutions;
- excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills;
- a strong sense of project ownership; and
- the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, changing, and challenging environment.
