Blue Mountain Union School is looking for a long-term sub for the elementary level guidance counselor starting May 1st for the remainder of the school year. https://www.bmuschool.org/ Job Purpose The School Counselor plans, organizes, implements and evaluates a comprehensive, developmental and results based school counseling program that aligns with and maintains the standards of the American School Counselor Code Association of Ethics national model of foundation, delivery, management and accountability for students, parents/ guardians, and school. Essential Job Functions Foundation
  • Creates a comprehensive school counseling program that focuses on student academic, career and social/emotional outcomes which align with school improvement and student success initiatives at the school, district, and state level systems.
Delivery
  • Provides direct services to students parents/ guardians and staff including but not limited to:
    • Students
      • Provision of school counseling core curriculum that supports academic, career and social/emotional plans.
      • Development and provision of effective, responsive interventions, which may include individual or group counseling or crisis response.
      • Administration of assessments that encourage academic, self-awareness and social emotional growth (e.g. learning styles, multiple intelligences, personal, vocational interest and aptitude)
    • Parents/ Guardians
      • Provision of supports related to communication skills, developmental issues, emotional and behavior challenges and adjustment to changing family dynamics that impact student achievement and growth.
    • School Staff
      • Identification of at risk students
      • Case management of students referred to Student Support Team/ Education Support Team for social-emotional needs
      • Documentation and records management
      • Data collection and analysis
      • Program planning and implementation
      • Provision of faculty presentations and trainings
  • Indirect service for students to students, parents, school staff, including:
    • Referrals to out-of-school providers.
    • Consultations, collaboration and coordination with outside agencies and organizations (e.g. DCF, the courts, community mental health)
    • Promotion of a school climate that recognizes and respects diverse populations and cultures.
Management and Accountability
  • Incorporates tools that are concrete and reflective of school and student needs, and the efficacy of the school counseling program in meeting these needs.
  • Analyzes school counseling program to guide future action and improve future results for all students, and which demonstrate the effectiveness of the impact school counseling program in measurable data driven terms to show the impact on
    • Student achievement
    • Attendance
    • Behavior
Professional Expectations, Ethics and Standards
  • Maintains membership in school counselor professional organizations.
  • Abides by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Upholds the ethical and professional standards of ASCA and other applicable professional counseling associations including confidentiality
