This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable.
As the Avionics Firmware Team Senior Manager, you will manage and lead a team of FPGA Firmware engineers who are responsible for all aspects of development, implementation, and deployment of FPGA solutions within New Glenn flight avionics. You will be a technical contributor in your area of expertise, providing technical support directly to your functional team. In this capacity, you will be responsible for exemplifying best practices, balanced technical judgment, and a superior work ethic. You will be responsible for cultivating an evolving, overseeing performance, merits, and promotions; shepherding team members' careers through coaching, and technical development; benchmarking their work standards and tools with other Blue Origin business units and with industry trends; and assuring that the team’s work products meet domain quality standards.
Our FPGA team is tightly knit and very collaborative, with a variety of experience and backgrounds. We care about the success of each other and our peers, and are very willing to help each other learn and grow. We work hand-in-hand Software, Electrical and Product Engineering teams to build outstanding avionics systems for our New Glenn Orbital Launch Vehicle.
Together we will build high-reliability, safety-critical avionics solutions for our New Glenn Orbital Launch Vehicle. As such, experience with DO-254 is a plus.

Responsibilities:
Build, mentor, develop and manage firmware team for impact and influence across New Glenn and Blue Origin.
Build and assess firmware development plans, processes and procedures and promote continual improvement.
Manage and communicate product firmware development status and issues across entire Product Development Life-Cycle.
Participate in program level technology development and mission assurance and safety initiatives across New Glenn and Blue Origin.
Supply, equip and train team to successfully enable efficient firmware development (architecture, design & verification)
Embody, promote, and coach the Blue Origin Leadership Principles and the New Glenn and Blue Origin team culture.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related discipline with a digital design focus
10 years managing technical teams and/or leading functional groups with responsibility for career management of employees
6 years of experience in at least one firmware development area applicable to space flight
Full Product Life Cycle development experience — from requirements development through final release
Relevant exposure to firmware development tools and environment; such as SystemVerilog, Universal Verification Methodology (UVM), Linux; and Modelsim, or Questasim and Synopsys, Vivado, Libero, etc.
Relevant exposure to FPGA MPSoCs and technology roadmaps such as AXI / AXIS, Zynq Ultrascale , SmartFusion2, PolarFire, Artix7, etc.
Familiarity with DO-254 and/or other development assurance guidelines; exposure to fault-tolerant, high-reliability, safety-critical, robust, radiation-tolerant FPGA-based solution development for space-based avionics systems
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
Must be comfortable working in Linux and shell scripting
Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
Compensation Range for:
WA applicants is $178,452.00-$249,832.80Other site ranges may differ
