Responsible for installing, operating, troubleshooting, cleaning, inspecting and maintaining the operation’s systems and processes, including scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, in a safe, environmentally compliant and professional manner. Responsible for all aspects of shift operations related to the production site, including oversight of site personnel in the absence of the Plant Supervisor.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Become a technical expert on the operation’s systems and processes.
  • Set the plant to optimize recovery rates; ensure that the right quantity and quality of metal recovery are achieved each shift; complete simple laboratory analyses.
  • In collaboration with the Plant Supervisor, assign day-to-day tasks and oversee all activities during the shift; ensure that the team completes all daily, weekly and monthly tasks.
  • Respond to processing issues within the plant on a daily basis.
  • In collaboration with the Plant Supervisor, plan and complete all necessary maintenance, including planning necessary downtime to carry out required maintenance :

Make realistic / achievable maintenance schedules.

  • Arrange the right contractors and coordinate their work.
  • Ensure that the required spare parts are onsite before the maintenance day begins.
  • Use downtime effectively to perform small maintenance tasks.
  • Plan and perform preventive and repair maintenance procedures safely, professionally and with minimal supervision, in compliance with Federal and State regulations and Company work rules, policies and procedures.
  • Understand the essential functions of each role on the plant sufficiently to provide direction, correction, support and guidance as needed.
  • Help to ensure all equipment grounds are kept clean and free of built-up ash and debris.
  • Read, understand and apply information, such as lockout / tagout procedures, safety and environmental rules, job hazard analyses, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Monitor and maintain on‐site equipment and related systems, including conveyor systems, screens, motors and bearings, to ensure safe, environmentally compliant and efficient operation.
  • Ensure that all necessary tools and parts are available on site to complete the maintenance and to minimize downtime.
  • Initiate and complete POs, work orders and requisitions; document all critical and / or pertinent information on a routine basis; keep a maintenance log of the entire system; enter and complete POs in the system.
  • Administer and ensure an accurate and up‐to‐date maintenance management software program.
  • Ensure that greasing and cleaning activities are performed on schedule and in accordance with standard procedures.
  • Perform welding and other fabrication repairs / improvements.
  • Perform minor electrical troubleshooting, as needed; develop and improve electrical knowledge.
  • Become proficient in the operations of the equipment; operate all site conveyors and process equipment in a safe and efficient manner and help spread best practices.
  • Make frequent rounds of the site to ensure proper operation of equipment, materials storage and handling, site security, cleanliness, safety and environmental compliance; document findings and schedule follow‐up.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with hand and power tools, blueprint reading and mechanical fasteners; demonstrate strong mechanical skills.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the operation of various mobile equipment, including Bobcat, fork truck, skid steer, person‐lift and pickup truck.
  • Maintain and follow all Company environmental compliance, health and safety requirements, policies, procedures and rules; correct safety and environmental hazards, and report any issues to the Plant Supervisor immediately.
  • Foster and promote a culture of teamwork; maintain positive morale.
  • Be available to work scheduled and unscheduled overtime; respond and report to work during off hours when emergency repairs are required.
  • Perform other duties as requested and / or assigned.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Oversee contracted personnel as required to complete maintenance tasks.
  • Plan and oversee work of all staff on assigned shift, including any temporary staff.
  • Education and Experience

  • Completion of technical program or equivalent on‐the‐job training
  • Minimum 2 years’ mechanical maintenance experience in a heavily industrial environment, specifically relating to plant maintenance and operations; experience in mineral processing preferred
  • Experience with welding, fabrication, hand and power tools
  • Experience with heavy equipment preferred; willingness to learn required
  • Experience with maintaining and repairing conveyors; knowledge of screens a plus
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with maintenance management or asset management applications preferred

  • Ability to anticipate issues; ability to detect when equipment is wearing and change or fix the issue

  • Ability to work effectively and safely in adverse environmental conditions, including wet or humid conditions, airborne particles, potential exposure to dust, and chemicals, varied temperatures and outdoor weather conditions, and noise in the work environment
  • Ability to work independently, delegate tasks and ensure follow‐through
  • A mindset toward Safety, Health & Environment during work, with strict adherence to and enhancement of the Company’s standards
