Job Summary :
The Controller is primarily responsible for maintaining the full integrity of all revenues, ensuring organization policies and procedures, as well as state and federal laws and regulations, are followed. The Controller oversees employees responsible for posting the day-to-day operational transactions related to revenue, cash receipts, and broker and vendor payments. The Controller performs the essential functions of the position noted below, while meeting the quality and service standards developed by the agency.
Supervisory Responsibilities :
- Supervises and manages the Accounting Department employees responsible for posting the day-to-day operational transactions.
- Hires and trains new employees.
- Conducts timely and constructive performance evaluations.
Essential Functions :
Work with the Vice President of Finance to prepare financial documents and provide support during the month end process.Completes assigned Balance Sheet reconciliations, including, but not limited to :Vendor & Premium PayableDirect Bill ReceivableBank ReconciliationsPrepare and post monthly journal entries.Support yearly 1099 process.Provide analysis reports to Senior Management for review.Prepare documentation for internal and external auditors.Participate in efficiency improvement projects.Perform other accounting related duties as assigned.May be required to work additional hours during month-end reporting to meet company deadlines.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to interpret abstract information.Demonstrated ability to take initiative and achieve results in a fast-paced and changing environment.Confident, self-starter who works well independently.Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines and multi-task.Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.Knowledge of GAAP accounting guidelinesRequirements
Education and Experience :
Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting required. Advance coursework preferred.Minimum of two (2) years accounting experience required, preferably in a shared services accounting environment.Previous experience with an Insurance Agency or Company preferred.Physical Requirements :
