Salary Description $55,000 to $65,000 per year
The Payroll Accountant is primarily responsible for providing assistance to the Vice President of Finance while maintaining financial procedures and confirming financial compliance within the finance department. The Payroll Accountant performs the essential functions of the position noted below, while meeting the quality and service standards developed by the agency.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Not Applicable.
- Process bi-weekly payroll.
- Complete assigned Balance Sheet reconciliations, including, but not limited to:
- Payroll withholdings
- Vacation Payable
- Producer Commission Payable
- Bank Reconciliations
- Prepare and post general ledger journal entries, including, but not limited to:
- Payroll
- Monthly and Year End Accruals
- Audit employee benefits to ensure accuracy.
- Prepare monthly analysis reports for Senior Management to Review
- Calculate and prepare quarterly Business & Occupational Tax Returns
- Calculate and prepare yearly Personal Property Tax Returns.
- Prepare documentation for internal and external auditors.
- Participate in efficiency improvement projects.
- Perform other accounting related duties as assigned.
- May be required to work additional hours during month-end reporting to meet company deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to interpret abstract information.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative and achieve results in a fast-paced and changing environment.
- Confident, self-starter who works well independently.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines and multi-task.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
- Knowledge of GAAP accounting guidelines.
Education And Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting required. Advance coursework preferred.
- Minimum of two (2) years accounting experience required, preferably in a shared services accounting environment.
- Previous experience with an Insurance Agency or Company preferred.

- Position may require the employee to ascend and/or descend ladders, stairs, ramps, and the like.
- Fast-paced environment with a high volume of work to be completed daily.
- Limited physical effort required or exposure to physical risk. However, must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
