For the academic year 2024-2025, Blue Ridge School seeks a dynamic and inspiring Music Teacher. The role of Music Teacher is a full-time, 9 month position that has primary responsibilities to plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. This person is responsible for teaching music education to students in grades 9-12 with a wide range of musical ability. This person will also assist the school in the improvement and appreciation of music instruction, helping all students and faculty to grow in their enjoyment, appreciation, and performance of music through a variety of planned musical experiences which include but are not limited to chapel performances, musical productions, open mic nights, and other school wide assemblies and performances. This person would also be required to teach 4 sections of music to be determined in collaboration and consultation with the Elective Department Chair and Academic Dean each semester.

The ideal candidate is a committed educator who is at their core, student oriented, collaborative in nature, willing to work with and support the other teachers in their department, and has the ability to balance leadership and directives with teacher autonomy. Candidates should have :
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in music, music education, or a performance related field from an accredited institution
- Ability to work with musicians at all skill levels
- Strong instrumental skills and prior performance experience valued and appreciated
- Involvement and membership in organizations such as the National Association for Music Education (NafME) or Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) is valued and appreciated.
- Flexibility, creativity and willingness to play an active role in the life of the School community
- Proficient use of music technology in the classroom and the theory behind such use
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with students, parents, peers, and supervisors
- Exceptional organizational, planning, problem solving, decision making and critical thinking skills

Physical Demands and Working Conditions :
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands : occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and / or pulling; some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and / or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 25% sitting, 25% walking, and 50% standing.
