Job purpose:
The Exceptional Student Services (ESS) Pre-Kindergarten Teacher will co-design and co-implement specially designed content with a Pre-Kindergarten Teacher for a classroom of students. Services may be provided in a co-taught environment and in small groups. The ESS Pre-Kindergarten Teacher will provide IEP-driven supports and services for students, manage an IEP caseload, and collaborate with professionals to ensure students’ IEPs and standards-based instruction are met.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Specially designs developmental instruction, in collaboration with a Pre-Kindergarten Teacher.
2. Directs classroom activities with a co-teacher and paraprofessional to support IEP goal mastery and each student’s developmental needs to provide progress toward kindergarten enrollment.
3. Collaborates with administrators, teachers, therapists, support staff, and parents to support student progress.
4. Complies with IDEA and state special education rules pertaining to timelines, procedures, and guidelines for IEP development.
5. Facilitates IEP meetings at the direction of the building administrator.
6. Completes special education documentation according to Dalton Public Schools local procedures.
7. Pursues professional learning opportunities to build professional expertise.
8. Maintains student records, including special education records, confidential records, records of services provided, and behavioral data.
9. Pursues new developments in areas pertaining to special education techniques, or as directed by a supervisor.
10. Participates in professional organizations, professional learning opportunities, and continually seeks to enhance professional knowledge and skills.
Qualifications:
To be qualified for this position the employee must possess certification in the following:
- Special Education- General Curriculum Consultative (P-12) Certification and Elementary Education Certification or Reading, Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Science (P-5) Cognitive Level Certification
