PRIMARY DUTY
The primary purpose of the Certified Medication Technician (CMT) is to administer medications to facility residents and monitor resident reactions to medications, under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
- Prepares and administers medications to residents in compliance with all related policies and procedures and regulations covering the CMT practice
Counts dosages and documents the number of scheduled drugs at the beginning and end of each shift
Reviews residents' medical record and medication administration record (MAR) for new medication orders, changes in medication orders and the overall accuracy of MAR including resident allergies, medication contraindications, expected medication action vs. suspected adverse action and reports discrepancies to the supervising nurseMonitors resident vital signs; observes residents for expected reactions; observes reportable, suspected and adverse reactions to medications administeredOrders and replaces medications and medication administration supplied as needed in compliance with facility policies and proceduresDocuments vital signs, medication administration, resident behaviors associated with medication administration, medication incident and accident reports, and facility incident and accident reportsPrepares verbal and written reports related to successful or unsuccessful medication administration, changes in resident condition and / or departures from usual and routine organizational operations
Meets with supervisory staff to report, review and discuss medication administration process and participate in review response, including, but not limited to, report preparation related to process, response to data collected from 24 hours medication audits and other performance improvement activities related to medication administration, problem identification and corrective actionsProvides direct resident care within the scope of the CMT role and continues direct care activities and other relevant nursing assistant duties as assignedParticipates in designing and implementing resident care plans in relation to medication administrationMaintains and cleans medication cart, refrigerator and work areaUnderstands and reviews the facility's Healthcare Clinical Policies and Procedures and Safety GuidelinesReports any issues or problems that may arise to the Director of Nursing and / or AdministratorComplies with state, federal, and all other applicable health care and safety standardsAssists families and other visitors as neededAttends / completes required in-services and other required meetingsPerforms other duties as directedEDUCATION and EXPERIENCE an equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.
High school diploma or equivalent; minimum of 1 year of previous long-term care experience preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experienceSuccessful completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant programMust hold a current and valid CMT certificationSUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTS of this position are generally as follows :
