Blue Rivers Public Transportation is accepting applications for a Part-Time Driver. Hourly wage is $14.50 an hour, plus benefits. The hours of work are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., with a half hour lunch break. Position may become full time if demand and ridership increase.
A Part-Time Driver is responsible for the safe transportation of all riders within the town of Fairbury and occasionally out of town.
Functions:
- Demonstrate basic knowledge of computer programs such as Windows and the related programs within the Transit Industry (Zonar)
- Coordinate the demands of the passenger with the resource of the vehicle for transportation services.
- Must be able to drive a larger than usual vehicle with a variety of blind spots safely.
- Maintain courteous relations with all they may encounter daily,
- Demonstrate a thorough working knowledge of the area the driver is working within.
- Demonstrate the ability to use either a radio system or telephone to take or pick up passengers to the appropriate destinations
- Attend all mandatory training and staff meetings.
- Subject to a pre-employment and a random drug/alcohol testing schedule conducted by a third party.
Education, Certifications, and Licenses:
- High school diploma or equivalent required, or equivalent job experience preferred.
- Must have a valid Nebraska Driver’s license.
- Ability to work well under pressure.
- Computer skills preferred but training will occur
Physical Demands and Typical Working Conditions:
- Standing, bending, twisting, turning.
- Lifting and carrying up to a total weight of 30 lb. sacks into the vehicles.
- Should be able to climb stairs if necessary.
- Must be able to sit for extended periods of time.
- Must attend scheduled training sessions as mandated by the USDOT and NEDOT.
- Demonstrate an overall awareness of the destination in the larger cities either using a GPS information or a map with the destination on it.
- Dress appropriately for the weather and actively work to maintain the health and well-being of passengers on the bus by cleaning it as scheduled and with approved agents.
Attendance and Availability Requirements:
- Must maintain an acceptable level of attendance, punctuality, and availability as determined by the Agency; must work such regularly scheduled hours as are determined by the Agency.
- Must notify the Transit Manager in advance if unable to work on assigned day.
- Must have a cell or basic telephone to call or be called in to work.
- This position may be assigned to work as a back-up to others in the area.
