Your Role

Reporting to the Vice President of Internal Audit, Security, Corporate Real Estate & Facilities, the role of the Director is critical to the success of Blue Shield of California in realizing its goals and objectives. The Director is the most senior security executive in the organization. The role is accountable for all aspects of the security process, developing and directing the organizations security strategy, and overseeing implementation of the effort to minimize loss, enhance security, and create business opportunity through the control of risk.

Your Work

In this role, you will :

Accountable for all aspects of the security process, developing and directing the organizations security strategy, and overseeing implementation of the effort to minimize loss, enhance security, and create business opportunity through the control of risk
Assesses organizational security risk and business operations to formulate a global security strategy to promote business development, reduce risks, and limit exposure to liability in all areas of physical and personal risk
Identifies and analyzes business and security-related risks to the organization and communicates security risks and makes recommendations to senior management and the board
Directs security staff in identifying, developing, implementing, and maintaining security plans, processes, and procedures across the organization in all relevant aspects of security, including
Risk and vulnerability assessment, workplace investigations, background and due diligence investigations, crisis preparedness, emergency response, and business continuity, employee security awareness, insurance and risk transfer, executive protection; and security regulatory compliance
Accountable for appropriate implementation of emerging security technology solutions and security management techniques
Develops relationships and represents the organization to high-level law enforcement and intelligence agencies
Directs the approach, deployment, and execution of sensitive and complex investigations as necessary
Develops and manages or directs the capital and expense budget for the organizations security operations

Your Knowledge and Experience

Requires a college degree (masters preferred) or equivalent experience

Minimum 10 years prior relevant experience (e.g., armed forces security, military police, law enforcement, or private security), including 6 years of management experience required

4 years of Director experience preferred

Certified Protection Professional desired from American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS) desired

Demonstration of continuing security management education or relevant professional security certification preferred

Background consistent with the ability to obtain the necessary licenses as required by the position

Demonstrates ability to manage and direct the security function and all its components, including the ability to plan strategically and develop policy at a senior level

Possesses ability to budget and plan for security issues

Demonstrates superior leadership and verbal, written, and presentation skills

Demonstrates an ability to develop, influence, and nurture trust-based relationships with senior management, business unit leaders, government officials, and professional organizations

Demonstrates integrity and ability to maintain principles under pressure

High-quality analytical skills, management experience, and exceptional relationship management competencies

Demonstrates superior judgment, leadership, project management, priority-setting, and problem-solving skills

Demonstrates ability to anticipate, influence, and assist the organization to assess and rapidly adjust to changing conditions and trends

Demonstrates superior ability to direct, coordinate, and provide direction and leadership to security staff
