Your Role

The HRBP, Director (Stellarus) is a dynamic, hands-on leader who will serve as a strategic partner in a fast-paced start-up, high-growth environment, aligning human resources with organizational goals to drive business results. The Director, HRBP Stellarus will report to the VP, Human Resource Business Partner. This position will lead a team of Human Resource Business Partners, serving Stellarus leaders and their respective teams. This role will work collaboratively with the HR Business Partner Leadership team and the People and Engagement Centers of Excellence team to execute and achieve goals.


Your Work

In this role, you will:

  • Plan and execute large scale and/or key programs intended to improve business results by providing opportunities for our employees to grow personally, professionally and financially during their career at Blue Shield of California
  • Support employee engagement and culture work by brokering with key HR and business stakeholders across the organization
  • Serve as a coach and trusted advisor to leaders related to demonstrating the leadership model, ensuring there is a talent strategy and human capital plan in place that enables the business plan, organizational development, design, and transformation, hiring decisions, promotions, total rewards, employee relations issues, and overall talent management
  • Partner collaboratively with People and Engagement Centers of Excellence in the design and development of programs such as people strategy, talent review, performance management, leadership development, employee relations, and total reward initiatives to deliver against organizational outcomes
  • Consult with senior business leaders to understand business strategies and challenges, identify key talent and talent gaps, execute talent management programs and develop management and leadership capabilities. Leverage business acumen, financial data and market trends to inform the people strategy.
  • Lead complex cross functional strategic initiatives in support of business goals including:
    • Lead and influence the design, execution, and realignment of the strategic business structure to meet evolving needs of a growing startup
    • Lead strategic workforce planning initiatives to ensure the right talent is in place to meet current and future business needs; plan and execute Human Capital Planning to drive the strategic architecture
    • Act as a strategic advisor to business leaders, providing insights and recommendations on HR related matters that affect the organization's overall performance
  • Consult on business leadership team effectiveness, executive coaching and leadership development processes
  • Lead and develop a high performing, solution focused and influential team Human Resources Business Partners. Collaborate with HRBP Director peers, ensure succession of HRBPs to director level roles within HRBP organization
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of change management strategies and plans. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and address potential barriers to successful change implementation
  • Assess the impact of proposed changes and develop appropriate change interventions that support the people and business outcomes. Measure and monitor the effectiveness of change initiatives, gathering feedback and adjusting strategies as needed
  • Model leader behaviors that enable an employee experience that will continue to be the center of what we do, to be Human, Honest, Courageous


Your Knowledge and Experience

  • Requires a college degree or equivalent experience
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Requires 10 years of progressive experience in the HR field, and a successful track record of implementing progressive human resources initiatives that have had a clear impact on the performance of the organization
  • Requires a minimum of 6 years of management experience
  • Requires 5 years of strategy development and implementation experience inclusive of change management
  • Requires an understanding of the business and the ability to anticipate the impact of talent on the future success of the company
  • Requires the ability to connect business and people strategies and lead the development and execution of human capital planning
  • Requires experience scaling teams and capabilities within a dynamic and rapidly evolving growth organization
  • Requires the ability to proactively communicate with multiple stakeholders inside the organization, operating comfortably in a highly matrixed environment
  • Requires one to be comfortable operating in an innovative and fast-paced organization and to bring an external lens of HR best practices to Blue Shield of CA
  • Requires expert level ability to lead, coach, consult with, and influence business executives towards success and effectiveness in leadership team and workforce capability
  • Travel Requirement: Some travel, primarily in-state, will be required.
  • Preferred Credentials: Professional certifications/designations (i.e. PHR, SPHR), coaching certification (i.e. CPC, ACC, PCC)

Pay Range:

The pay range for this role is: $ 166540.00 to $ 249920.00 for California.

Please note that this range represents the pay range for this and many other positions at Blue Shield that fall into this pay grade. Blue Shield salaries are based on a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, location (California, Bay area, or outside California), and current employee salaries for similar roles.

Two Ways of Working:

  • Hybrid (Default): Work from a business unit-approved office at least two (2) times per month (for roles below Director-level) or once per week (for Director-level roles and above). Exceptions:

    • Member-facing and approved out-of-state roles remain remote.

    • Employees living more than 50 miles from their assigned offices are expected to work with their managers on a plan for periodic office visits.

    • For employees with medical conditions that may impact their ability to work in-office, we are committed to engaging in an interactive process and providing reasonable accommodations to ensure their work environment is conducive to their success and well-being.

  • On-Site: Work from a business unit-approved office an average of four (4) or more days a week.

Physical Requirements:

Office Environment - roles involving part to full time schedule in Office Environment. Based in our physical offices and work from home office/deskwork - Activity level: Sedentary, frequency most of work day.
