- This job reports to Principal, Liggett Trail Education Center.
- This position is a Full Time (182 day) benefits eligible position.
- The starting salary for this position is $30,795 - $46,237 Salary will be commensurate with full time, parallel years of experience.
- Assists various office and support activities of the PAT program (e.g., recruitment flyers, newsletters, initial contact calls, enrollment of new families, orientations, screening referrals, developmental screening, copying, purchase orders, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the program education center is running smoothly.
- Attends trainings, workshops and committees (e.g. parent-student workshops, educational seminars, department in-service, DECA, DROP, ASQ trainings, first aid and CPR, all required state and local in- services, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions and remaining knowledgeable with program guidelines.
- Counsels’ students, staff, parents, and guardians (e.g., evaluating situations, solving problems, resolving conflicts, referral to appropriate professionals, etc.) for the purpose of strengthening the bond between the teachers, children, and families while enhancing positive early childhood development in school education center.
- Maintains a variety of confidential and non-confidential manual and electronic lists and records (e.g., work/appointment schedules, contact logs, parent resources, etc.) for the purpose of documenting and/or providing reliable information.
- Offers initial home visit and conducts conference to familiarize the working and non-working families with the educational components of programs for the purpose of promoting the bond, collaboration and engagement of families and educators.
- Organizes and facilitates parent workshops, group meetings, EC Advisory Board meetings to advocate PAT program objectives and promote participation for the purpose of decreasing parental isolation and developing parent involvement with their child's school activities.
- Prepares a variety of professional documents, reports, and written materials (e.g., screening results, services and intervention strategies, student progress, contacts with parents, teachers, outside professionals, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to parents and staff, providing written support, developing recommendations, and/or conveying information.
- Provides answers to inquiries from a variety of internal and external sources (e.g., other district staff, outside agencies, parents, partners, etc.) for the purpose of explaining the program objectives, schedules and/or direction as may be required.
- Responds to and reports notables and/or emergencies encountered during home visits for the purpose of ensuring safety of children, parents, and/or personnel; and making timely referrals.
- Serves as liaison and advocate of parents and students transitioning through the first year of school for the purpose of building family engagement to foster positive outcomes for every child and removing barriers to student's success in school.
- Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the educational center.

Position Summary:
The job of Parents as Teachers BS-BA is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the educational process with specific responsibilities for working with parents of newborns to age five children families through home visits, group meetings, and developmental screenings; promoting parent involvement and providing information and/or direction; assisting parents in goal setting and educational development; developing and refining Parents as Teachers (PAT) program materials; connecting families to community resources; and assisting the smooth transition of children from home to preschool and kindergarten.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
Skills are required to perform multiple tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: applying pertinent laws, rules and regulations; and utilizing pertinent software applications.
Knowledge is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: infant and preschool development stages; parenting methods; and community resources.
Ability is required to schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; gather and/or collate data; and use basic, job- related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined and similar processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with a variety of data; and utilize specific, job-related equipment.
Problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: being attentive to detail; communicating with persons with varied cultural and educational backgrounds; establishing and maintaining constructive relationships; and maintaining confidentiality; and communicating with persons of diverse backgrounds.

Experience: Job related experience is required.
Education: Targeted, job related education with study in job-related area.
Equivalency: Any combination of education, training, and/or experience which demonstrates ability to perform the required duties. A preferred background would include a bachelor’s degree with emphasis in early childhood, child development or related areas. Minimum 60 college hours course in early childhood, child development or related subjects. Experience working with young children is highly desirable. Must stay up to date of national PAT training model guidelines.
