Draftsperson/Designer for Signage
We are looking for a highly motivated and proactive person to join us and support the Design and Engineering Department with your knowledge, skill, and artistic spirit while performing a variety of necessary activities such as:
• Creating accurate and detailed production drawings for use in CNC, welding, paint, and graphics
departments using templates, fonts and formatting within drawing submittals
Adopting and maintaining Bluebird’s graphics and design standards
Creating ADA compliant signage layouts using specific required dimensions and correctly translated Grade 2 braille
Working on complex technical drawings, noting fabrication materials and their thicknesses, accurate dimensions, fastening hardware, paint and vinyl colors, locations, etc.
Working with message schedules to create large quantities of sign layouts
Maintaining consistency between approved sign typicals and final sign layouts
Assist in producing clear and detailed shop drawings for fabrication of signage, displays, and other graphic environments
Collaborating with Project Managers on jobs to meet client expectations
Meeting drawing deadlines in order to ensure the job is on schedule
Working with other designers to ensure consistency between drawing packages
Attending client meetings when called upon
Skills and Qualifications
The ability to problem solve and translate design intents and shop drawings into production drawings and fabrication files that are clear, true, accurate and effective
Must be extremely detail oriented
Understanding of section and detail views to communicate how a sign or structure is being fabricated
Ability to clearly communicate through use of line, shape and color
Knowledge of scales and switching between them while maintaining correct dimensions, stroke widths, text styles, etc.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from four-year College or technical school; or six months to a year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Basic computer skills on Mac OS
Knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and CAD drawing software (knowledge of CadTools plugin for Illustrator helpful but not required)
Knowledge of Fusion 360 or equivalent 3D design software is helpful but not required
Experience in the Signage Industry extremely helpful but not required
Positive attitude, flexibility, and resilience facing constant change and tight deadlines
Communication skills with both Project Managers, designers, and shop floor coworkers
Punctuality and attendance are crucial
Availability for overtime and occasional weekend work
Ability to take direction and be open to learning
Valid driver’s license
Reliable transportation
Ability to pass a background check, drug test and physical exam
