What are the responsibilities and job description for the IDD Direct Support Professional position at Bluebonnet Trails Community Services?
Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) play a vital role in supporting people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (IDD) of all ages realize their full potential and participate within their community. DSP work goes well beyond caregiving to include:
- Teaching life skills
- Helping individuals maintain a safe living environment
- Assisting with money management, independent living skills, social skills and other routine needs
- Providing transportation to social outings, doctor appointments and other activities
- Documenting services
- Establishing a safe and trusting relationship with clients
- And more
DSPs may work in family or individual homes, various community sites, vocational and day programs, and other locations. This is determined by the unique needs and preferences of the individuals the DSP supports.
We are looking for candidates who are skilled at independent problem solving, decision making, behavioral assessment and prevention, and teaching new skills.

Location: Guadalupe and Caldwell Counties
Salary: $14.06 – $18.81/hr
Applicable Differentials:
Up to $2.00/hour – previous experience at a community center in a similar role
$1.00/hour – Tenure with BTCS
$0.75/hour – Bilingual
$1.00/hour – Career Ladder Specialty

Preferred Qualifications: Previous lived or paid experience as a direct support staff. Previous paid experience provided support to individuals with cognitive or physical impairments. Bachelor’s degree in a health or other human services field. Bilingual in Spanish or ASL.
