Job Description

The Jail Diversion Coordinator is responsible for conducting crisis assessments and jail diversion activities within the Caldwell and Gonzales County Jail. This position requires a good working relationship with jail personnel and County Courts including County and District Attorneys, local center staff, and other community service organizations. This position will follow protocols for identifying individuals who may be good candidates for diversion or referral for mental health treatment while in the jail setting. This position seeks to minimize jail time to coordinate appropriate health care services for persons incarcerated due to a mental health, intellectual, developmental or substance use condition.

The work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, primarily jail-based working 8-5 and some evening and weekend on-call hours required on a rotating basis. Some services may be coordinated via tele video.

The person in this position must possess a passion and aptitude for working with individuals who have chronic and severe mental health, intellectual, developmental and/or substance use needs and are involved in the criminal justice system. Knowledge of psychotherapeutic medications, intensive case management functions, substance use treatment, crisis services, community resources, and evidence-based practices in the mental health and criminal justice systems is required. This position necessitates innovative thinking, patience, resiliency, skills in advocacy, service coordination, mental health assessment and evaluation, collaborative person-centered recovery planning and dual-diagnosis treatment. The person in this position will effectively work independently and on a team, prioritize needs during crisis situations, engage in regular meetings and training opportunities, balance self- care and perform other duties as assigned with a positive attitude.

Location: Gonzales and Caldwell Counties

Salary: $21.46 – $33.71/hr

Applicable Differentials:

Up to $2.00/hour – prior experience at a community center in a similar role

Up to $3.50/hour – prior crisis experience

$1.00/hour – Master’s degree

$0.75/hour – Bilingual

Up to $4.00/hour – tenure with BTCS

$1.00/hour – advanced licensure

$2.00/hour – Weekend Shift Differential

Retirement Plans:
401A: Through this governmental plan, we offer a 7% match to employee contributions.

Credentials
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in psychology, education, social work or a practicum related human service field; one-year work or /clinical experience in case management, crisis intervention and/or psychosocial rehabilitative services. Experience in providing concurrent documentation within an electronic database preferred. Must have a valid Texas driver’s license and maintain approved driver’s status throughout employment.

Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree and/or clinical license in psychology, education, social work or a related human service field; one- year work or practicum/clinical experience in case management, crisis intervention and/or psychosocial rehabilitative services.

Bilingual in ASL or Spanish preferred
