PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF THIS POSITION

The Director of Technology is responsible for the overall technology strategy, vision, and direction of the organization. As a member of the executive leadership team, the Director leads the development and execution of IT initiatives to support the organization’s mission and operational goals. This position is responsible for overseeing all IT infrastructure, systems, and applications, ensuring efficient and secure operations. The role also includes leadership of the Public Information Officer (PIO) and all agency IT related staff (including Building Manager/Audio Visual Specialist) to ensure alignment between technology needs, communication platforms, and facilities. This position reports directly to the Executive Director.

SPECIFIC ACTIVITIES INCLUDE

1. Strategic Leadership:

a. Develop and implement an overarching technology strategy to align IT efforts with the organization’s plans, programs and projects.

b. Participate in executive leadership team meetings to contribute insights and recommendations related to technology and information management.

c. Monitor industry trends and technological advancements to ensure the organization remains at the forefront of relevant innovations.

2. IT Infrastructure and Operations:

a. Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of IT infrastructure including hardware, software, networks, and data management systems.

b. Ensure the integrity, security, and reliability of IT systems and services, including managing IT risk, cybersecurity measures, and disaster recovery protocols.

c. Lead and manage IT staff, ensuring alignment with overall IT goals, and provide mentorship and professional development opportunities.

d. Implement digital workflow management systems across the BGADD enterprise.

3. Budget and Resource Management:

a. Develop and manage the IT department’s budget, ensuring financial resources are utilized efficiently and within budgetary constraints.

b. Identify cost-effective solutions for the organization’s technology needs while maintaining high standards of service.

4. Collaboration with PIO and Building Manager/Audio Visual Specialist:

a. Oversee the work of the Public Information Officer (PIO), ensuring that technology platforms support effective communication strategies and the dissemination of key organizational information.

b. Work with Building Manager/Audio-Visual Specialist to ensure that the physical infrastructure of the facility supports IT needs and provides a safe, functional, and efficient work environment.

5. Vendor Management:

a. Manage relationships with third-party IT vendors, contractors, and service providers.

b. Negotiate contracts, ensure service level agreements (SLAs) are met, and address performance issues with external vendors.

6. Compliance and Reporting:

a. Ensure IT operations comply with relevant legal, regulatory, and organizational standards and best practices.

b. Prepare and present reports on IT initiatives, performance metrics, and budget performance to the executive leadership and board of directors.

c. Ensure proper data retention and file management policies are in place for agency in accordance with state and federal regulations. This includes creating secure storage and retrieval mechanisms for future usage as well as configuring cloud integration.

7. Change Management and Innovation:

a. Lead change management efforts for IT system upgrades, transitions, and new technology implementations.

b. Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the IT team and across the organization.

8. Training and Staff Development

a. Create custom IT training opportunities for staff on frequently utilized software and programs including Teams, Office Suite and One Drive.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES

  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to align technology strategies with the overall mission and objectives of the organization. Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Leadership: Proven experience in leading, managing, and motivating cross-functional teams. Ability to mentor IT staff, PIO, and Building Manager to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
  • IT Expertise: In-depth knowledge of IT infrastructure, systems administration, cybersecurity, cloud computing, data management, and enterprise software solutions. Familiarity with nonprofit and quasi-governmental agency technology needs and constraints.
  • Project Management: Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Experience with IT project management methodologies, timelines, and resource allocation.
  • Budgeting and Financial Acumen: Ability to create, manage, and track departmental budgets. Experience with cost-effective IT solutions in a resource-constrained environment.
  • Vendor and Contract Management: Expertise in negotiating, managing, and evaluating contracts with third-party vendors and service providers.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to collaborate across departments and convey complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Familiarity with relevant laws and regulations affecting IT systems, including data protection, security, and nonprofit governance.
  • Adaptability and Innovation: Ability to stay current with technology trends and lead the adoption of innovative solutions that drive organizational success.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • At least 10 years of experience in IT management, with a focus on leadership, strategy, and operations.
  • Experience working in or with nonprofit or quasi-governmental agencies is a strong plus.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CISSP, PMP, ITIL) are preferred.

Pay: From $80,081.00 per year
