Required Education
Standard working knowledge of basic skills (reading, writing, math), maintenance of records and files, general office work, customer service, word processing, database management, and administrative abilities. Requires the ability to selectively extract and verify information from a variety of sources to be applied in the completion of multi-step procedures. Requires the understanding of interrelationships of procedures and desired results and the ability to gather, organize and perform limited analysis. May require operation, maintenance and regular adjustment of more complex equipment.

The Health Service Clerk
- Provides excellent customer service to patients according to Patient Centered Medical Home principles and others who interact with health center.
- Schedule patient appointments according to scheduling rules. Obtain and enter patient information accurately at time of appointment into PMS.
- Checks insurance eligibility
- Understands insurance processing
- Answer/transfer calls promptly and in a professional and courteous manner.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient personal, financial, and health records.
- Cleans waiting room and waiting room bathroom facilities at designated intervals and as needed.
- Accurately enters and verifies patient information.
- Patient check-in and check-out
- Interacts with patients in a respectful and culturally competent manner.
- Will attend Outreach Events or Health Fairs as scheduled by Supervisor

- Assess patient flow from waiting room to clinic; communicate with clinic regarding patients with extended wait times.
- Collects co-pays, sliding fee discount payment, and past due balances
- Network and complete professional development activities to enhance knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Attend meetings, training, and other events as requested.
- Provide backup coverage and assistance to other employees as required or requested.
- Offer to assist others in the department to effectively handle workload.
- Cross-train others and participates in cross-training to enhance skills.
- Act in compliance with contracts, laws, regulations, BCHC policies procedures and standards.

Required Education
- High school diploma or GED is required
- Associates Preferred.
- One year of healthcare experience preferred.
- Bilingual preferred
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides for the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
