Veterinary Technician: Full-Time Position
We are searching for a Veterinary Technician to join our team for Bluegrass Veterinary Hospital in Gallatin, Tn.
Bluegrass Veterinary Hospital is looking for a competent Veterinary Technician to provide compassionate patient care and positive client experiences. The Veterinary Technician will provide critical care nursing, triage patents, coordinate their care, and provide them with care before and after by taking their vitals, performing phlebotomy duties, and providing intramuscular, intravenous and subcutaneous injections. You will discuss treatment and disease processes with clients, systematize the track patient diagnostics. You will communicate with clients, veterinarians and pharmacies regarding patients’ needs. Successful Veterinary Technicians need to be meticulous and compassionate to provide patients with the highest level of care. Veterinary Technicians must be motivated, empathetic and detail-oriented.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
- Assist the veterinarian during examinations, able to safely restrain animals
- Triaging patients, taking vitals, and obtaining patient history and other information from clients.
- Prepare and administer medications, vaccines, and treatments, as prescribed by the Veterinarian.
- Perform routine dental cleanings
- Administer anesthesia to animals, can monitor and maintain anesthesia
- Obtains radiographs of animals with the knowledge of proper positioning and techniques
- Care for and monitor the conditions of patients recovering from surgery
- Administer emergency first aid, such as performing emergency resuscitation or other lifesaving procedures.
- Can stay calm and efficient during a medical crisis.
- Collect, prepare, and label samples for laboratory testing , culture, or microscopic examination
- Clean and sterilize instruments, equipment, and materials
- Provide the Veterinarian with the correct equipment and instruments, as needed
- Fill prescriptions, measuring medications and labeling containers
- Calculating medication dosages, and providing dosage instructions to clients.
- Prepare animals for surgery, knowledgeable in aseptic and sterile techniques.
- Acquire cephalic, saphenous and jugular blood samples and place IV catheters.
- Discuss treatment plans with clients
- Can be sympathetic to clients in distress and provide comfort in times of grief
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Veterinary Technician Certification (LVT/RVT/CVT)
- Minimum two years of experience as a Veterinary Nurse or assistant
Personal requirements:
- Physical Effort: Work requires lifting and carrying animals (will be assisted by other staff members when lifting animals over 50 lbs.)
- Walking and standing for extended periods of time
- Is experienced in a teamwork approach and works well with other hospital team members
- Has excellent client communication skills

Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
