Software Development Engineer III

Bluehawk Consulting is seeking a Software Development Engineer III with strong software development experience to join our team.
Project Overview
The ideal candidate will have expertise in building scalable, reliable, and resilient software systems, focusing on improving application performance, observability, and fault tolerance. The SRE team is dedicated to ensuring seamless travel experiences for millions of users by enhancing the reliability of applications and services. As an SDE III on the SRE team, you will collaborate closely with developers and product teams to build software solutions that enhance the reliability and performance of critical services.
Responsibilities
- Develop software solutions to improve application reliability, performance, and scalability.
- Collaborate with development teams to enhance error handling, fault tolerance, and graceful degradation strategies.
- Implement observability improvements (logging, tracing, metrics) using tools like Datadog, Splunk, and OpenTelemetry.
- Write high-quality, maintainable, and testable code in Java, Kotlin, or other object-oriented languages.
- Work on resilient system design patterns, such as circuit breakers, retries, failovers, and timeouts.
- Improve automated recovery mechanisms for handling failures and degraded states in distributed systems.
- Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and design reviews to ensure reliability best practices are followed.
- Collaborate with teams to define SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets, ensuring services meet availability targets.
- Work on root cause analysis & post-mortem reviews, developing software improvements to prevent future incidents.
- Stay up to date with industry trends and drive adoption of best practices in software engineering for reliability.
