Veterinary Assistant - Oncology

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Rockville, MD is seeking a compassionate and dependable Veterinary Assistant to join our Oncology team!

Support a specialized team focused on diagnosing and treating cancer in pets. You'll assist with patient care, help prepare for treatments like chemotherapy and surgery, and play a key role in ensuring a smooth, comforting experience for both pets and their owners. Schedule: 4-10 hour week day shifts

Pay: $21.30 - $32.00 / hour

This pay band is dependent on experience and advancement through our competency assessment tool. Candidates with VTS credentialing are eligible for compensation commensurate with experience.

As a Veterinary Assistant In Oncology, You Will

• Provide gentle, hands-on care to patients, including walking, feeding, and providing comfort.
• Assist with patient restraint during exams, procedures, and diagnostic tests.
• Help prepare exam rooms and treatment areas with necessary supplies and equipment.
• Support team members in maintaining accurate patient records and organizing diagnostic samples.
• Clean and disinfect treatment areas, equipment, and kennels to maintain a safe, sterile environment.
• Monitor patients and promptly report changes in behavior, appetite, or condition to the veterinary team.
• Comfort and educate pet owners during visits, helping them understand care instructions and next steps.
• Help with patient check-ins and discharges, including obtaining histories and reviewing home care instructions.
• Communicate clearly with team members to support efficient patient flow and quality care.
• Assist in stocking and organizing supplies in exam and treatment areas.

Our Continuing Education Plan includes $500/year reimbursement for CVT and $750/year for VTS. The Continuing Education allowance can roll over up to $1,500 for CVT and VTS associates. Non-Credentialed, full-time Paraprofessionals are eligible for an annual CE stipend of $150. Full-time CVT associates also receive 8 hours of CE paid hours each year. Full-time VTS associates receive 12 hours of CE paid each year. Paid CE hours can be carried over year to year up to a maximum of 24 hours. Newly hired associates will receive a pro-rated amount of any CE benefit for which they are eligible.
