Position Overview:
The primary responsibility of the Drier is to provide safe and timely transportation of PACE participants, meals, durable medical equipment, pharmacy, and all other transportation deemed necessary. The Driver is responsible for overall cleanliness and safety of PACE vehicles assigned on a daily basis. The Driver is responsible for communicating any safety issue to the Transportation Director.
Essential Job Functions:
- Responsible for PACE passengers during transport, providing care in a manner which ensures participant satisfaction.
- Follow assigned schedule, adjust to meet unanticipated changes, while considering the needs of the participant and requirements of the PACE Center. Communicate these changes to Transportation Director or designee.
- Operate equipment safely and in compliance with vehicle licensing regulations.
- Maintain and complete daily required records, i.e. Pre and Post Trip Inspections, gasoline purchases.
- Immediately report to Transportation Director any vehicle or cell phone operating problems, malfunction, or incidents out of the ordinary routine.
- Transport participants to and from medical/specialist appointments and activity outings as requested by the interdisciplinary team via the plan of care.
- Transport meals, durable medical equipment, pharmacy, and any other items as deemed necessary for participants.
- Provide physical assistance to each participant when needed while boarding and disembarking from the program’s vehicles.
- Maintain PACE vehicles in a neat and clean condition.
- Ensure vehicle equipment is maintained and operating within manufacturer’s recommendations, replacing supplies as needed.
- Function as a member of the interdisciplinary team when appropriate.
- Communicate with Transportation Director or designee daily to be updated on participant conditions/changes, plan of care changes, or interdisciplinary team requests.
- Handle potentially infectious fluids and specimens with appropriate biohazard precautions and practice Standard Precautions.
- Participate in and support Quality Improvement initiatives.
- Maintain any required certifications or licenses.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Must be at least 18-years of age.
- Must have a valid Kansas driver’s license and a clear driving record with no moving violations.
- Must be able to read and interpret map and route information, navigating within the PACE service area.
- Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with participants, caregivers and co-workers.
- Prefer prior experience transporting individuals with special mobility needs.
- Must be knowledge of safety requirements pertaining to the transportation industry.
- Prefer prior experience utilizing a transportation software scheduling program.
Physical Requirements:
Medium Work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly.
