What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dental Billing Assistant position at Bluestem Health?
The Dental Billing Assistant is responsible for assisting the dental biller with processes and posting payments and adjustments to the Nextgen System, helping check and verify insurance and checking benefits, monitoring and pursuing delinquent accounts and failed or denied insurance claims.
Essential Duties:
1. Responsible for accurately processing claim charges timely.
2. Assures daily posting of patient payments and third-party payments.
3. Assures adjustments are made appropriately in the billing system for all sliding fee patients.
4. Will appeal and work to resolve unpaid claims where applicable.
5. Assures timely identification of patient accounts with credit balances and processing of refunds.
6. Maintains knowledge of payer coverage determinations and guidelines. Assures timely follow up on unpaid charges, denials, or rejections
7. Take patient phone calls to resolve questions or take payments
8. Process system credits.
9. Follow-up with insurance on denied and no response claims.
10. Work system rejections and edits to ensure clean claims.
11. Work the clearing house reports unclean claims and scrubber errors.
12. Work the dental tasks in NextGen for unpaid claims or follow-ups.
13. Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:- High School Diploma, or Equivalent, Required
- Dental background preferred
- Strong computer skills, including data-entry and knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Highly organized and ability to meet deadlines
- Attentive to detail, quality, and accuracy
- Self-starter and able to work with minimal supervision
- Ability to interrelate with a wide variety of people
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
- Experience with third party payee information and collection or billing experience.
