Director of Education Job Summary:
BWH is looking for an energetic and experienced physician with a background in medical education and outstanding clinical expertise to assume the position of Director of Education. This position is responsible for the oversight of all educational activities and programs that focus on the delivery of clinical care to its patients.
The BWH Board approves the appointment of the Director with input and support from the CMO. The Director reports to the CMO and provides direct support to each individual Educational Director at BWH’s training sites .
General Responsibilities:
- Remains updated and, when appropriate, involved with regional and national organizations that focus on Acute Care and Emergency Medicine training: e.g., ACEP, ABEM, CALS, SEMPA
- Meets as needed with the local Educational Directors, Director of Provider Relations, and others involved with the educational activities at all BWH sites to ensure collective success of BWH’s educational mission
- Develops, in collaboration with the local Educational Directors, Director of Provider Relations, and others involved with the educational activities at all BWH sites, a BWH-specific internal evaluation process that will identify both the strengths and opportunities for improvement of the educational program
- Will be a member of the Medical Director’s Group
External Education Programs:
- Serves as the point person for interacting and negotiating with all existing or interested educational partners such as medical schools, residencies, fellowships, and APP training programs.
- Develops and continually updates, in collaboration with the Educational Directors, a core curriculum that emphasizes the unique challenges of practicing in resource limited environments.
- Oversight of site Educational Directors for external learner programs
Internal Educational Programs:
- Responds to findings from QA and Risk programs to develop needed internal education
- Develops and oversees the implementation of HALO across BWH
- Develops and oversees the implementation of Team Training programs across BWH
Requirements:
Basic Requirements:
· Maintains board certification as an MD or DO physician in good standing
· Practices clinically as an employee or owner of BWH
· Meets licensing criteria required in all states where BWH provides care
· Demonstrates excellent written and spoken communication skills
Preferences:
· Validates prior experience in formal medical education of medical students and residents
· Validates advanced training in either Medical Education or related masters level program
· Validates experience in program development and implementation
· Validates experience in team building skills
