Works closely with Maintenance and Operations
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for completing dew point readings, 3gas Analysis, soap concentration checks, and system accuracy tests per CQI9.
- Responsible for ensuring timely calibrations of hardness testers, furnace controllers, uniformity surveys, quench oil analysis, etc. per CQI9.
- Responsible for the replacement of thermocouples and basic instrument repairs.
- Responsible for the preparation of specimens for metallographic examination, basic metallographic interpretation, and performing or assisting with metallurgical investigations, as required.
- Accurately performs hardness and other tests and records results as required.
- Review conformance certificates and other related paperwork created by the Lab Technicians.
- Performs shop audits and/or reviews as required.
- Brings any deviation, problem or irregularity to supervisor or management.
- Responsible for completing test reports, conveying pertinent information to relieving Lab Technician, close liaison with production operators and supervisors, and segregating material or products where required.
- Practices and promotes safety and good housekeeping.

Requirements
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty. The requirements are listed below:
- Education: High School diploma or equivalent
- Experience: One to three years’ experience in heat treating or related field. A background in Chemistry or Physics and completion of technical courses related to heat treatment is not required but desired.
- Language Skills: Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Must be able to communicate professionally with internal and external customers.
- Physical Demands: Must be able to sit and stand for prolonged periods, bend, stoop and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Must have good vision, corrected/uncorrected, for precise reading of equipment.
- Must have working knowledge of all testing equipment and terminology.
- Must have general knowledge of commercial materials and heattreating equipment.
- Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, be detail oriented and possess manual dexterity.
- Work Environment: May be exposed to heat, noise, humidity, and fumes.
- Must be able to work overtime, any shift, and any day of the week.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain the status of certified forklift operator.
- Be willing to participate in technical training courses related to heat treatment as requested or recommended by the Company.
- Ability to read and interpret heat treatment specifications as supplied by the customer and/or Company Engineering.
- Desired Skills: Knowledge of spark testing and blueprint reading.
- Preferred: Proficient with Microsoft Office, Outlook, QuickBooks, and Google Docs.
- Preferred: Bilingual English/Spanish.
