Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Emergency Dispatcher to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing emergency calls and coordinating responses from various emergency services. This role requires exceptional communication skills, the ability to analyze situations quickly, and a strong understanding of medical terminology and law enforcement procedures. As an Emergency Dispatcher, you will play a crucial role in ensuring public safety and effective emergency response.

Responsibilities

• Receive and prioritize emergency and non-emergency calls from the public, assessing the nature and urgency of each situation.
• Dispatch appropriate emergency services including police, fire, and medical teams using GPS technology.
• Communicate clearly and effectively with callers to gather necessary information while providing reassurance.
• Transcribe information accurately into dispatch systems for record-keeping and analysis.
• Utilize GIS mapping tools to provide accurate location data to responding units.
• Analyze incoming data to determine the best course of action in emergencies.
• Maintain detailed logs of all communications and actions taken during incidents.
• Collaborate with law enforcement agencies to ensure coordinated responses during emergencies.
• Manage conflicts calmly and professionally, de-escalating situations as necessary.
• Stay informed about local geography, resources, and emergency protocols.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age.
• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Must have a valid driver's license
• Proven experience in dispatching or a related field is preferred but not mandatory.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to convey information clearly under pressure.
• Familiarity with medical terminology and first aid practices is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of law enforcement procedures is a plus.
• Proficient in using GPS systems and GIS mapping tools for effective dispatching.
• Excellent conflict management skills with the ability to remain calm in high-stress situations.
• Ability to analyze information quickly and make sound decisions based on available data.
• High attention to detail with strong transcribing capabilities.
• Must be able to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
