This is a Temporary Full-time position.
The RxPatient Advocate’s role is to coordinate medication advocacy for BluMine clients through a variety of patient assistance programs and alternative sources of medications. The Patient Advocate will work both independently and collaboratively with other team members to assist patients. The Patient Advocate is responsible for requests made by Providers for assistance in advocacy for their patients as well as proactively seeking advocacy for patients based on PBM data.
The Rx Patient Advocate should demonstrate professional behavior and clinical competency, knowledge of medical processes and medications within their scope of work and help to ensure total patient care through assistance programs. Patient and provider satisfaction, along with clear concise communication to the patient and co-workers are key to the success of this role.
Job Responsibilities:
- Proactively contacts those patients indicated for advocacy and discusses options available to them.
- Assists in patient assistance program applications and answers any questions necessary for entrance into an advocacy program.
- Follows up with the patient on a regular basis to ensure the patient is still on the advocated drug. If patient is no longer on the drug, discusses with the Nurse Practitioner regarding other advocacy necessary or changes / additions to current medications.
- Follows the application process to final advocacy, tracks and reports on status and results.
- Consistently reviews patient information so that no missed opportunities occur for advocacy.
- Advocate for patients early in the process.
- Attendance and outreach efforts at on-site client events that may involve Rx advocacy.
- Other duties as assigned.
Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum two years’ experience in the healthcare and/or pharmacy field required.
- Healthcare license preferred (i.e. Pharmacy Tech, CMA)
- Good patient skills combined with a good understanding of prescription drugs.
- Insurance knowledge a plus.
- Ability to read reports and analyze data.
- Ability to work independently and as a team member.
- Knowledge of MS Office products, especially Excel.
- Comfortable with proactive patient outreach via various methods (phone, text, email, etc.).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to speak and hear – Medical Spanish a plus.
- Close and distant vision.
- Frequently sitting with some walking and standing.
- Frequently lift / carry up to 20 lbs.
- Continual use of manual dexterity and gross motor skills with frequent use of bi-manual dexterity and fine motor skills.
Working Conditions:
- 8 am – 5 pm, with flexibility to work other hours to effectively communicate with patients.
- Continual work in normal office conditions, this is not a remote position.
- Phone and computer use.
- Potential exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic environment when in a clinic setting.
