THERAPY AIDE
Full-Time & Per Diem
At Blythedale Children's Hospital, under the direction of the Director, and or Assistant Director of Physical, Occupational or Speech Therapy, the Therapy Aide provides escort service; transfers patients on and off equipment; performs patient/resident programs under the supervision of a physical, occupational or speech therapist; maintains the general upkeep of the Physical, Occupational or Speech Department.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
If position is for Physical or Occupational Therapy, then the following are the essential responsibilities:
· Change patient from and to various adaptive equipment as scheduled by the physical or occupational therapists;
· Assist with or perform treatment procedures that have been predetermined for each patient/resident by the physical or occupational therapists;
· Runs upper extremity exercise class as per physical or occupational therapists direction;
· Assist in smooth operation at the pool; insure adequate supplies, check temperature, shower, dress and occasionally toilet patients/residents, and disinfect hydrotherapy equipment;
If position is for Speech Therapy, then the following are the essential responsibilities:
· Assists in feeding program for patients/residents under the direction of the Therapeutic Feeder, Special Instructor and Senior Speech-Language Pathologist;
· Under the direction of the speech / feeding therapist and classroom instructor assists patients/residents in participating in classroom routine centers including varied play, sensory activities and mealtimes;
· Assists in distribution and return of mealtime trays to the food cart;
· Participates in varied training which include but are not limited to MealTime Safety and Sequential Oral Sensory Approach to Feeding (SOS).
Responsibilities for all Therapy Aide positions are as follows:
· Assist in maintenance of the department; maintain organization of equipment and supplies;
· Demonstrates competency in Meditech Electronic Medical Record system and documentation in the EMR is timely and appropriate;
· Participates in varied therapy, special and hospital trainings as indicated
·Cleans therapy materials (e.g., toys, mats, feeding equipment ball, etc.)
·Demonstrates ability to transport patients/residents to and from designated locations;
· Maintain departmental inventories and supplies;
· Other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education
A High School Diploma or equivalent required. Experience working with children preferred; and collaborating with other professionals at all levels of the organization.
Physical Demands/Working Conditions
Ability to take and follow direction given by professional staff. Be in good physical health with ability to perform heavy duty work. Have some mechanical aptitude and good interpersonal skills required. Requires the ability to lift, pull, push, carry, bend, crouch and balance patients from light to heavyweight.
Communication Skills
Able to read, write, understand and speak proficiently in English.

Salary ranges from $36,000 – 39,000 based on experience. We offer an excellent benefit package including ample vacation and free parking, continuing education, staff in-service and clinical supervision.
