What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dyslexia Interventionist position at Blytheville Middle School?
Summary
The Dyslexia Interventionist typically provides state required Orton Gillingham instruction. The interventionist along with the Dyslexia Therapist will plan and instruct lessons for students in groups of 5-6 at a time. They will instruct students in small groups or individually.
Responsibilities
Classroom and School Environment
- Hold students accountable for high expectations of behavior and engagement that are ambitious and measurable
- Contribute to a culture of respect, enthusiasm, and rapport
- Manage student behavior during interventions
- Monitor each students’ progress while documenting data.
Instruction (if applicable)
- Tutor small groups and individuals, under the direction and using the tools/rubrics of state approved Dyslexia curriculum.
- Deliver a direct, effective reading instruction in Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Fluency, Vocabulary, and Comprehension
- Supervise skill practice, and some digital learning.
Professional Responsibilities
- Maintain professionalism and confidentiality
- Collaborate with Dyslexia Therapist.
Qualifications
- Previous experience working with children
- Orton Gillingham trained/ Knowledge of subject matter being taught
- Bachelor’s degree a plus, but not required
- Minimum of Associates degree, 60 College Hours or passing score on Para Praxis Exam
- Demonstrated effectiveness working with people who have differing cultural backgrounds and/or personal characteristics, including race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or economic differences.
- Knowledge of subject matter being taught
Must have one of the following:
- 60 Hours from an accredited college or university - Transcript required
- Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university - Transcript required
- Successful completion of the Para-Professional Praxis Exam - Score documentation required
- B.S.E. transcript
