POSITION SUMMARY: Under general direction, oversees the development, implementation and monitoring of safety management throughout the organization. Coordinates the Environment of Care program in accordance with Joint Commission standards in order to assure a hazard-free facility for patients, visitors and colleagues. Maintains liaison with external regulatory agencies pertaining to environmental health and safety, and develops and implements policies in compliance with standards and regulations. Manages the information collection and evaluation system in order to identify and mitigate unsafe environment of care conditions. Assists the Senior Director of Facilities when required. Position: Facilities Life Safety & Compliance Manager Department: Plant Operations Schedule: Full Time JOB REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in Facilities Engineering or related field. EXPERIENCE: At least seven (7) years' experience in a technical and managerial position with increased responsibility. At least 5 years of facilities management experience in a mid to large size academic medical center with similar responsibilities and progressive management experience in, building maintenance and/or construction is required. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Extensive management skills to direct staff and contractors for mechanical equipment design, installation and repair. Considerable knowledge in preparation and management of numerous budgets. Capable of communicating with all levels of trades and management personnel. Strong understanding of the building codes of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Working knowledge of the Department of Public Health and The Joint Commission. Ability to understand and analyze complex technical documents, blueprints, contracts, specifications, energy reports and charts of accounts. Full understanding of purchasing and negotiating functions, and ability to create and analyze complex documents. Excellent problem solving and communication skills. Highly self-motivated with the ability to function in a fast paced environment. Intermediate level of proficiency with standard Microsoft programs (i.e. MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and web browsers. Physical Requirements: Good eye and hand coordination. Physically able to meet all medical criteria as required by the Occupational Health and Safety Administration for the use of a respirator. Physically able to perform job function through a full range of motions and positions, including but not limited to bending, pushing, pulling, squatting, prolonged standing and walking. Physically able to function effectively in various interior and exterior temperatures and occasionally weather extremes. Possess basic sensory perceptions of hearing, vision, depth perception, distinguish basic colors, smell, touch. All of the aforementioned must be within normal ranges or correctable to that range.
