Nutrition AssistantBrooklyn, NY ( Rockaway Avenue Brooklyn NY USA 11212)DescriptionAssist the WIC Nutritionists and the Nutrition Coordinator in the implementation and promotion of nutrition education activities in the WIC Program. The Nutrition Assistant will provide support to the nutrition staff, including gathering information for nutrition assessment process, obtaining anthropometric and hematological data, as trained.Supervisory Responsibilities : NoneEssential Functions and Duties : Functions as a WIC Associate for the day to day operation & smooth flow of operation. Rotate to the satellite to provide WIC services. Perform all WIC Associate duties as required.Provide clinic and office support to the Qualified NutritionistCollect information for the nutrition assessment process, including obtaining anthropometric and hematological data, as trainedParticipate in breastfeeding promotion and supportComplete issuance of food packages that do not require medical documentation, once prescribed by the Qualified Nutritionist.Provide referrals to health and social services, and document follow-upIdentify and refer participants to a Qualified NutritionistAssist Qualified Nutritionist in planning and evaluating participant-centered nutritioneducation (such as Food demos, healthy lifestyles, etc.)Required Skills / Abilities : Provide clinic and office support to the Qualified NutritionistCollect information for the nutrition assessment process, including obtaininganthropometric and hematological data, as trainedParticipate in breastfeeding promotion and supportComplete issuance of food packages that do not require medical documentation, onceprescribed by the Qualified Nutritionist.Provide referrals to health and social services, and document follow-upIdentify and refer participants to a Qualified NutritionistExcellent telephone manner, Basic computer skills Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.RequirementsEducation and Experience : High School Diploma required. Post high school education preferred.One year of experience working with children and familiesComputer skills required. Knowledge of the NYWIC preferredDemonstrate strong customer service skills.Ability to work with diverse public and availability to work on weekend.Bilingual is a plus : Spanish, French or CreolePhysical Requirements : Ability to lift up to 25 lbs
