Job Purpose
Manages all aspects of parts department operations. Returns a satisfactory profit on dealer capital invested in parts inventory.
Develops and maintains proper purchasing procedures, inventory control, staff utilization, security, pricing, merchandising, displaying, and advertising.
Promotes BMW standards for superior customer, employee, and BMW center management.
Primary Responsibilities
Provide parts and accessories to new and used vehicle sales, service department, and outside parts clients accurately and in a timely manner. Provide prompt and fair adjustments on defective parts
Maintain ongoing contact with key wholesale and retail customers.
Provide a balanced parts and accessories inventory. Provide acceptable levels of on-site parts availability.
As appropriate, manage all aspects of the center's wholesale parts program.
Establish with the General Manager realistic sales objectives by sales channels Meet monthly targets for retail and wholesale sales.
Increase sales by preparing and formulating annual forecasts, adjusting forecasts as needed, and by developing and implementing sales promotions as needed.
Merchandise effectively through an established and well-maintained BMW Lifestyle Boutique.
Maintain gross profit percentages on parts and accessories sales by establishing departmental parts pricing policies while obtaining a high return on inventory investments.
Manage inventory investments by maintaining adequate turn ratio and minimal obsolescence. Develop, implement and administer effective inventory procedures.
Maintain budget levels by monitoring expenditures, analyzing variances, and initiating corrective action.
Control costs by getting competitive bids, being alert to wasteful practices, random checking of part numbers to verify count, and improving existing practices as needed. Develop practices which prevent inside pilfering, insure special parts are not held over 30 days.
Promote the sale of parts and labor by assisting the workshop in developing competitive parts and labor packages. Promote the benefits of using genuine BMW replacement parts through the use of displays, promotions, and other marketing techniques. Promote service by establishing parts and service promotional sales programs.
Work with General Manager to determine appropriate staffing levels. Execute hire or termination decisions. Ensure high quality of new hires by thorough screening and selection.
Motivate, train, develop, and direct staff. Define and monitor performance of direct reports.
Maintain supply and support systems, including parts catalogs, price lists, promotional literature, and other materials, by ensuring they are current, stocked, and distributed.
Ensure that the parts and accessories inventory remains safe and in good condition by following good security procedures.
Ensure that warranty parts storage and return polices are followed.
Ensure physical resources such as parking, parts facilities, material handling equipment, storage units, display systems, and parts vehicles are properly used and maintained by following good maintenance and housekeeping practices.
Ensure proper waste disposal by following safe and legal material handling procedures.
Upgrade knowledge of BMW products and services and maintain professional and technical expertise by training on-the-job, attending trade shows and educational programs, establishing personal network, reviewing industry publications, and participating in professional societies.
