SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
The High School Geography and World History Teacher instructs high school students in both Geography and World History subjects at Bedford North Lawrence High School. This role involves creating engaging and comprehensive lesson plans that cover various geographical concepts and historical events. The teacher will foster critical thinking skills, cultural awareness, and an appreciation for the interconnectedness of global societies.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and deliver dynamic lessons in Geography and World History that align with state standards and the school's curriculum.
- Cover a range of geographical concepts, including physical geography, human geography, and the impact of geography on cultures and civilizations.
- Explore significant historical events, developments, and global interactions from ancient to modern times.
- Utilize various teaching methods and resources to accommodate diverse learning styles and encourage active student engagement.
- Incorporate maps, charts, multimedia, and technology to enhance geographical understanding and historical context.
- Encourage critical thinking and analytical skills in analyzing historical sources and geographical data.
- Foster an understanding of cultural diversity and global perspectives in historical and geographical contexts.
- Assess student progress regularly, provide constructive feedback, and grade assignments, exams, and projects.
- Create a positive, inclusive classroom environment that promotes respectful discussions and intellectual curiosity.
- Collaborate with other social studies teachers to ensure coherence and continuity in the curriculum.
- Organize and participate in historical simulations, debates, and geography-related activities.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and other relevant data.
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student performance and academic growth.
- Stay informed about current events, new research, and history and geography education best practices.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Indiana teaching license with Social Studies and Geography/History endorsements.
- Proficiency in teaching both Geography and World History subjects.
- Strong knowledge of geographical concepts, historical events, and global interactions.
- Ability to create engaging and interactive lesson plans that promote critical thinking and cultural awareness.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills to effectively convey complex concepts to students.
- Organizational skills to manage lesson planning, grading, and record-keeping effectively.
- Familiarity with technology platforms, including Google Suite, to enhance instruction.
- Experience working with high school students is preferred.
- Commitment to promoting a culturally responsive and inclusive learning environment.
