Reports to Manager Engineering in Kansas City

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Supervise planning, design, and construction of facilities across the BNSF system
• Support Mechanical department multi-year facility planning and construction execution
• Oversee design, installation, and maintenance of rail facility electrical systems and subsystems
• Support field maintenance personnel via technical expertise
• Maintain compliance with published building codes, applicable government standards, and BNSF published engineering standards
• Represent BNSF Engineering Department with consultants, contractors, in house departments, and government agencies
• Manage projects from conception through start up
• Show an active commitment to BNSF’s goal of an injury free work place

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: 

• Degree in Engineering or 7 years’ experience in related fields
• Must demonstrate working knowledge of BNSF Engineering building standards, building codes or applicable government standards
• Must have working knowledge of train and other railroad equipment operations
• Must be familiar with architectural, engineering standards, project planning principles, environmental standards, government regulations, construction techniques and their applicable costs
• Ability to work independently, organize, schedule, plan and prioritize multiple projects at one time
• Must be proficient with public speaking
• Be willing and capable to communicate with all levels of BNSF
• Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, and sleet)
• Able to travel to various locations in a geographic region, including some international travel, and remain on site for extended periods, sometimes days or weeks at a time

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Proficiency with BNSF desk top computer systems is desired
• Demonstrate working knowledge of BNSF Engineering standards, building codes, and applicable government standards
• Working knowledge of train and other railroad equipment operations
• Proficient with the BNSF computing environment and fully capable of quickly understanding and applying new applications
• Strong working knowledge of safe railroad operations and practices
• Knowledge of structures construction standards and Maintenance of Way Standards, Maintenance of Way and Bridge Worker Safety Rules and the General Code of Operating Rules
• Possess a working knowledge of union agreements and hours of service laws
• A Professional Engineer's or construction craft license in a state or states in which the BNSF operates is desirable
• Working knowledge of standards, requirements and specifications as outlined by BNSF, AREMA and governmental agencies
