We’re seeking a future team member for the role of Vice President, Operational Risk to join our BNY Asset Servicing Operational Risk team. This role can be located in either Pittsburgh, PA or Lake Mary, FL in a Hybrid work environment.
About the team:
Reporting to the Operational Risk Management Senior Director co leading the Asset Servicing Operational Risk Management Team, the Operational Risk Officer will be part of a global team within the 2nd Line of Defence overseeing a number of BNY’s core business lines including Global Transfer Agency, Middle Office, Custody, Sales and Client Coverage.
The Operational Risk Officer (ORO) will have daily interactions with the Business and Operations teams to provide appropriate independent second line of defense review, challenge, oversight, and advice to the first line of defense and ensure that operational risks are properly identified, assessed, and mitigated, also contributing to the proactive risk management for new initiatives and activities and strategic priorities and plans.
The ORO have the following responsibilities:
- Oversight, review, challenge and advice for the Asset Servicing adherence with the Operational Risk Management Framework including Risk & Control Self Assessments, Key Risk Indicators, Operational Risk Events and Business Process Change risk assessments.
- Advice and guidance on how to manage operational risks, including identification of new and emerging risks, use of sufficient and appropriate controls, review and remediation of operational risk events and actions to mitigate control gaps.
- Oversight and proactive engagement with strategic initiatives focusing on risk management solutions that enable safe and sound business growth, making recommendations to reduce implementation risk while ensuring compliance, risk and control documentation and notification of all appropriate representatives and regulators.
- Oversight of 1LOD issue escalation and ownership of 2LOD issue escalation to the Risk and Compliance management team.
- Documentation for 2LOD raised challenges and issues and follow-up on 1LOD actions to address them.
- Development, documentation and discussion of risk views, including thematic reviews and independent assessments.
To be successful in this role, we’re seeking the following skills:
- Bachelor’s Degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Graduate degree preferred.
- 7-10 years total work experience with 1-3 years of experience in Operational Risk preferred. Experience in First Line of Defense business/control roles, 2LOD Compliance or 3LOD Audit is also very relevant.
- Strong familiarity with Asset Servicing products and operations to identify, assess, monitor, and report on operational risks.
- Understanding of the Operational Risk Management Framework and associated risk tools, eg RCSAs, KRIs, OREs.
- Ability to develop and establish collaborative working relationships with colleagues in both 1LOD and 2LOD to ensure timely completion of risk-related deliverables, issue resolution and implementation of improvements.
- Data analytics skills and proficiency with Excel, Microsoft Word, Power Point.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with senior leaders and across all levels of the organization.
