BNY Mellon's Legal Department, has overall responsibility for government affairs and advises on advocacy and policy initiatives of the company to support BNY Mellon's domestic and international operations, and they also support all bank regulatory and supervisory issues.

The Legal Security Investigations team reports under the Legal Department’s Regulatory, Enforcement and Investigations group and is responsible for preserving an effective internal investigation process to respond to security incidents and reported violations of law, regulatory compliance, policy, and ethics in a timely and objective manner. The primary mission of Legal Security Investigations is to mitigate company risk through excellence in investigations and suspicious activity reporting. The Team collaborates closely with the company’s Compliance, Corporate Security, Information Security, Legal Department and Suspicious Activity Response Team. Activity investigated by the Team includes Financial Crimes including but not limited to Automated Clearing House (ACH) fraud, check fraud, debit card fraud, employee misconduct, identity theft, wire fraud, market manipulation, data breaches, and theft of property. Additionally, Legal Security Investigations works with company stakeholders to identify insider threat concerns.
Legal Security Investigations seeks a highly skilled and experienced Specialist, Security Investigator to join its team of legal and investigative professionals. The Specialist will be responsible for conducting thorough and comprehensive investigations related to financial fraud, theft, employee matters and other security incidents within our organization. The Specialist is also responsible to identify and report suspicious activity and reputational risk revealed during an investigation to the relevant business units, Compliance, or local law enforcement and should have the ability to manage sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism.
Key responsibilities include: (1) conducting comprehensive investigations related to security incidents, fraud, theft, employee matters, or any other breaches of security within the financial sector; (2) recommending whether to file a Suspicious Activity Report (SAR); (3) gathering, analyzing, and piecing together information from various sources, including digital evidence, surveillance footage, transactional records, and employee interviews; (4) collaborating with internal departments, such as Legal, Human Resources, and Information Security, to gather relevant information for investigations; (5) creating detailed reports documenting investigation findings, including evidence, timelines, and recommended actions for management and stakeholders; (6) maintaining accurate and organized records of all investigations, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
Strong and consistent attention to detail along with an ability to work efficiently and manage tight deadlines are critical skills for this demanding role. This team member must also effectively communicate and develop relationships with senior colleagues and collaborate with them on investigations.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience required.
5-7 years of total work experience preferred.
Previous experience in security investigations within the financial sector or a similar industry.
Professional certification, such as Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), is preferred.
