JOB TITLE: Instructional Aide (Physical Education) 

REPORTS TO: Campus Director

DEPT. / SCHOOL:  Academic / Bob Hope School / Cypress Campus / Physical Education

WAGE / HOUR STATUS: Non-Exempt/Full Time / 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. M-F (1-hour unpaid lunch)

PAY GRADE:  2025-2026 Aide Salary Schedule 

 

PRIMARY PURPOSE 
Assist teacher in preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements. Work under supervision of certified teacher. 

 
QUALIFICATIONS 

 
Education: 
o Associate’s degree or two years of study (60 college hours) at an institute of higher learning 

 
Special Knowledge/Skills: 

  • Knowledge of subjects assigned 
  • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction 
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior 
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills 

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES 

  1. Provide direct instruction to students under direct supervision of teacher. 
  2. Conduct instructional exercises and implement specialized interventions and strategies for Newcomers/ELL students assigned by the teacher; work with individual students or small groups. 
  3. Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, rhythms, and dance, and individual, dual, or team sports, utilizing course of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities. 
  4. Analyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge’s, and strategies of formal sports, games rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement. 
  5. Create and maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social and emotional development of students and is congruent with the teaching philosophy, Board of Education policy and goals of the district. 
  6. Assist in classroom management. 
  7. Conduct parent involvement activities.  
  8. Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays as needed. 
  9. Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments. 
  10. Help maintain neat and orderly classroom. 
  11. Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of ELL equipment and instructional resources. 
  12. Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports. 
  13. Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers as needed. 
  14. Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students. 
  15. Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance. 
  16. Participate in departmental meetings and special events as assigned. 
  17. Adapt to changing demands when assisting teachers who provide instruction for distance learning. 
  18. Perform other duties as assigned. 

WORKING CONDITIONS 

Equipment Used:  

Sporting equipment, Computer with software, printer, calculator, copier, facsimile machine, overhead projector, and other specialized equipment that is particularly unique to the teaching assignment.

Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); interpret policy, procedures, and data; coordinate district functions; maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruption

Frequent district-wide travel; occasional regional and state-wide travel; work indoors  and  outdoors  to  conduct  on-site inspections  of  stadium,  field  examinations  and  visits  to  sites  and  schools; frequent prolonged and irregular hours; steady phone interactions; frequent standing, walking, stooping, bending, twisting, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and minor lifting, and carrying small stacks of textbooks, media or athletic equipment, desks, and other classroom or athletic equipment; may have exposure to biological hazards; occasional moderate lifting.

Bob Hope School is a growing open-enrollment public charter school (non-profit) providing parents a choice in their child's education. Bob Hope Elementary is a Montessori / Dual-Language campus. Instruction is conducted in a two-way immersion program, where teachers fluent in English teach ELA and those fluent in Spanish teach SLA and are supported by teacher aides with a strong command of both languages. Campuses are located in Port Arthur, Beaumont, Baytown, and Cypress, Texas. The Hughen Center, Inc. is the charter holder of Bob Hope School.
