PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Provide safe, orderly, and efficient transportation of students to and from school and on extracurricular trips.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:?
High School Diploma or G.E.D. o Class B (or A) commercial driver’s license with “P” and “S” endorsement and air brake approval (absence of restriction “L”) o Successfully complete twenty (20) hour Texas DPS School Bus Driver Certification Course within first six months of employment o Attend and successfully complete triennial eight (8) hour refresher courses
Licenses, Certifications and Other Requirements:?o Must have current Texas Department of Public Safety School Bus Driver Certification o Must be able to pass an annual physical and mental examination as required by Texas
Department of Public Safety o Must maintain an acceptable driving record for school bus drivers as defined by Texas

Special Knowledge/Skills:?o Ability to pass pre-employment and periodic drug and alcohol screenings as required by federal law o Ability to complete and maintain required bus driver safety training o Ability to follow verbal and written instructions o Ability to proficiently read, write, and communicate verbally in English and understand instructions for safety procedures o Knowledge of student discipline procedure o Ability to manager student behavior o Ability to operate bus and other fleet vehicles
Experience:?o Experience as a school bus driver preferred but not required o Experience working with children preferred but not required
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Bus Driver
Essential Job Functions
- Drives school bus for the purpose of transporting students over scheduled routes to and from school and/or field trips in a safe and timely manner.
- Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspections (e.g., gauge levels, exterior condition, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the safe operating condition of the vehicle and complying with mandated guidelines.
- Monitors students and other passengers during transit for the purpose of ensuring the safe transportation of all passengers.
- Advises students of appropriate behavior for the purpose of reinforcing established guidelines and maintaining passenger safety.
- Prepares a variety of written and verbal reports (e.g., incident reports, inspection records, student misconduct, mileage logs, student attendance, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, conveying information, and/or complying with established guidelines.
- Reports observations and/or incidents (e.g., discipline, accidents, inappropriate social behavior, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to the Transportation Coordinator for follow up.
- Cleans the inside of assigned route vehicle for the purpose of ensuring safety, appearance, and sanitation of the vehicle.
- Conducts emergency evacuation drills for the purpose of ensuring efficiency of procedures and complying with state mandated requirements.
- Monitors the Transportation Calendar to properly accommodate field trip transportation as needed.

- Maintains great attendance record and reports to the assigned route in a timely manner.

Lead Fleet Maintenance
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Monitors the Maintenance Calendar for pending tasks and documents when our vehicles get serviced.
- Drives fleets to and from repair shops or to our different schools.
- Plans, schedules repairs, and performs preventative maintenance on transportation fleet as needed.
- Ensures the availability of vehicles in safe operating condition.
- Maintains fleet in excellent working condition, to the highest extent possible and performs thorough detailed monthly vehicle inspections, including a test drive, and documents results on a spreadsheet by the 10th of each month.? Vehicle concerns noted on the inspection (e.g., Oil change) will either be resolved immediately on- site or will be prioritized and worked on immediately after. During the inspection process, tires will be aired up to the recommended PSI and all refillable fluids will be topped off to capacity.
- Documents efforts to obtain vehicle repairs in the preferred work order system.
- Determines universal items that can be kept on hand and will fit most school buses, such as windshield wiper blades, headlights, light bulbs, etc., and maintains a reasonable amount readily available.
- Performs routine deep cleaning on the exterior and interior of school buses twice yearly, including washing the body, cleaning interior and exterior windows, cleaning the seats, and vacuuming for the purpose of maintaining appearance, sanitation, and safety of vehicle, non-CDL vehicles once monthly or as needed, depending on the vehicle.
- Communicates with the Transportation Coordinator of any vehicle malfunctions, damages or repairs.
- Assists with requisition paperwork and repair schedule with our different mechanic shops.
