What are the responsibilities and job description for the Audio/Visual Technician (Student) position at Bob Jones University?
SUMMARY: Assist full time audio/visual staff.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (under supervision):
- Provide technical support for BJU/BJU Press offices and classrooms
- Install new hardware solutions (projectors, audio equipment, flat panel monitors, security cameras, etc.)
- Maintain and troubleshoot existing hardware; research and test new hardware/software as directed
- Pull various cables through walls and ceilings
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Must be enrolled as a student at Bob Jones University or Bob Jones Academy (or will be for the next semester)
- Must be at least 16 years of age
- Aptitude and willingness to learn new technologies and follow direction from supervisor
- Ability to sometimes work alone, following supervisor’s directives
- Ability to complete a task that may take several days or even weeks
- Ability to distinguish colors on wires and connectors
- Ability to climb ladders
- Not opposed to getting dirty/sweaty on occasion
- Willingness to do manual labor (lifting, carrying, using tools)
- Limited allergies to dust and dirt (frequent work in ceiling areas)
- Must (occasionally) be able to lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 lbs.
PREFERRED, BUT NOT REQUIRED:
- Driver’s license
- IT experience; specific PC and Mac knowledge a plus
- Microsoft Word and Excel
- Ability with basic tools (screwdrivers, pliers, power drills, hammers, etc.)
- Ability to put connectors on ethernet, video coax, or microphone cables
- Experience with audio mixers, video cameras, monitors, or projectors
- Ability to troubleshoot connections that use wifi, HDMI, or USB
- Ability to follow signal flow on a block diagram or schematic
- Knowledge of remote learning software (Microsoft Teams, Zoom, etc.)
