What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shipping Assistant Print Production Technician position at Bob Jones University?
POSITION SUMMARY: As the Assistant Shipping Supervisor you are responsible for operating in a backup role to the Shipping Supervisor. This also involves acting as a shift supervisor in the absence of department Supervisors and Assistant Supervisors. Primary shiftwork includes performing all necessary shipping functions. As a Print Production Technician working in the Printing Division September through May, you will be part of various teams that are responsible for the printing and binding of books and related curriculum products. This job will also require regular second and third shift work.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Distribution Center:
- Work required shiftwork including overtime and Saturdays during peak season (May-Sept) and as necessary.
- Assist department supervisors and manager with various duties as needed.
- Perform all daily opening and closing procedures as needed.
- Assume shift supervisor responsibilities in the absence of all department supervisors and manager.
- Assist with management of production and restock flow throughout the warehouse.
- Manage release and completion of orders.
- Assist in preparing and loading outbound shipments for FedEx and other daily shipments.
- Process international shipments and prepares them for pickup (including USPS).
- Maintain adequate funding for USPS shipping accounts (Endicia).
- Insure that all rush orders are completed in a timely manner.
- Assist with picking and packing when needed.
- Assist in researching and resolving weight verification and other issues.
- Assist customer service personnel in researching and resolving shipping problems.
- Supervise customer pick-up window as needed.
- Monitor automated systems and equipment and report problems to appropriate personnel.
- Conduct training for new personnel.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and efficient work environment.
- Printing Division:
- Learn and understand job ticket and work order to verify correct specifications for each job.
- Set up and run jobs on various printers, finishing, and bindery equipment.
- Follow shop schedule and supervisor's direction in prioritization of tasks.
- Record all activities in data collection program.
- Perform regular and preventative maintenance as well as trouble shooting and repairs on equipment as needed.
- Properly load, identify, and stage prior to, during, and after completion.
- Maintain a safe and orderly working environment
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Must have good visual acuity and manual dexterity.
- Familiarity with various substrates: grain, bulking, and performance characteristics.
- Must be dependable with a solid work ethic, positive attitude, and a focus on consistent quality.
- Must be able to read, comprehend, and follow written as well as verbal instructions.
- Strong communication and above average interpersonal skills and ability to work cooperatively with others.
- Strong math and basic level computer skills
- Ability to work shifts regularly and overtime as needed
- One year of manufacturing or related experience
- Prior experience and familiarity with shipping and receiving procedures would be beneficial.
- Prior experience in any fast-paced fulfillment environment would be beneficial
