What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Orientation Leader (Student) position at Bob Jones University?
SUMMARY: Assists the First-Year Experience Director and Program Coordinator during Summer Orientation.
Work dates: June 18-21
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assisting new students and their families
- Presenting information about BJU and its various student services
- Facilitating small group discussions among incoming students
- Assisting with surveys, tours, and placement tests
- Presenting topics and personal experiences related to the first-year experience
- Handling questions and referring new students and parents to appropriate resources on campus
- Assisting with logistical details of summer orientation
- Must be available for training June 18 (evening)
- Available to work during all of orientation (Thursday evening, June 19 – Saturday morning, June 21)
- Must (occasionally) lift/carry and/or push/pull up to 100 lbs.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Must have completed at least one semester as a university student
- Able to maintain and present a professional image to new students, their families, and faculty and staff
- Able to lead small-group discussion
- Able to connect to new students
- Excellent customer service skills
- Able to think on your feet and make good decisions
- Knowledge of student experience, campus environment, student resources and philosophy
