Summary:
The Civil Engineer II will help design, plan, and supervise the construction of new commercial buildings. They will support and communicate with all project stakeholders, while promoting a positive and safe work environment.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Consults with and provides guidance to project stakeholders and managerial staff regarding engineering requirements for design, permitting or construction of various projects.
- Meet with Supervisor and/or Project Developers to determine scope of project
- Convert surveys to Bobbitt standards and prepare base maps and conceptual documents
- Develop and amend Programming and Schematic site plans as required for owner approval
- Develop and amend Design Development site and grading plans as required for pricing, based on adherence to current codes, zoning and landscape ordinances
- Develop, revise and produce clear and accurate construction documents as required for submittal
- Sign and seal completed construction documents required for submittals
- Keep personal project files and document job evolution as required by the scope of the project
- Revise submittal documents as required by jurisdictional review
- Assist Architectural Designer and PME Engineer in coordination of building, site and utilities
- Coordinate with appropriate agencies as required to explain projects and receive approvals
- Develop and maintain a working knowledge of current codes and construction practices
- Drafts and presents reports on topics necessary for project design, permitting and completion
- Collaborates with architects, Project Developers and Project Managers to ensure projects progress properly.
- Collaborates with surveyors (or directs and participates in surveying) to establish installations or reference points, grades, elevations, and other factors that will affect construction.
- Monitors project progress and ensures design specifications, safety, and standards are met.
- Field questions posed by Consultants or Construction personnel as necessary to expedite the construction of projects
- Assist Project Manager and Superintendent as necessary for close-out of project.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Experience & Competencies:
- Thorough understanding of civil engineering principles, practices, and tools.
- Proficient in AutoCad Civil 3D
- Understanding of regional Stormwater design and requirements
- Thorough understanding of safety regulations related to assigned projects.
- Ability to identify and solve complex problems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to be both creative and analytical.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required.
- Licensure as professional engineer (PE).
Preferred Knowledge, Experience & Competencies:
- Local and State knowledge and experience a plus.
Supervisory Requirements:
- Directs and oversees junior or subordinate staff members regarding project planning, design and construction, operations, for a proposed project
- Sub-contractors/Surveyors
Work Format:
This position requires team collaboration and presence at in-person meetings and is best suited to a traditional work schedule. Occasional remote work is acceptable.
Travel Requirements:
- Occasional travel (10-15%) to meetings and events, typically within a 150-mile radius of the office.
- Occasional travel to various job site locations as needed for photography or milestone events.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift 30 lbs.
- Ability to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods of time.
- Ability to see well (naturally or with correction).
- Must have a valid Driver’s License.
